Meanwhile Chris Collins at Northfreakingwestern is 19-46 in quad 1 games since 20-21…..basically same quad 1 record as beard at Texas tech, Texas, and ole miss (20-45).

This is true, and if he had a final four and RMK on his quarter zip we would be all over it!

I'm convinced that the appeal of Beard for some people has nothing to do with coaching (because his record isn't that good). It's about the perception that he is an alpha, along with some kind of cultural/social signaling about not caring about the DV incident and his other baggage.

Huh?

McDermott gives me big fish in a small pond but would not survive in the big pond vibes. I have no reason why just my gut feeling

I'm curious to see how he does at Creighton without his son at the start. Doug was probably the best player on College Basketball for a few years. I'd say it would be a meh hire. He did a nice job taking Creighton from the MVC to the Big East. Again, he did have Doug but still impressive.

Welcome! Your entry fee is one longform post spilling your guts about what you think is going on with our coaching search! Happy to have you.

Boy I wish I had a good answer for you. I’m scratching my head really. Trying to make sense of the Dusty extension and timing/details, Woody out on a recruiting trip for a kid who is coming to IU regardless…it’s been a weird day.

There was a solid 5 days or so after the Goodman tweet that I hadn’t really heard anything that gave me a reason to close that door mentally. last couple days sounded like maybe the door was closed.

But some of what is occurring really does not make a lot sense to me. Things not adding up. Not really sure what to think.

I will say I refuse to believe this search is anything but Dolson and Co.’s A game, as this process has been underway for months and months. So that’s part of why this is pretty confusing to me so far (granted it’s still early).

If we’re throwing Chris Collins in the mix…then might as well throw in John Groce or Jerome Tang lol

When we can throw in Chris collins and his quad 1 record is as good as beard’s, you need to start really thinking if beard is really as strong a candidate as you think he is.

and if all it takes is a final four appearance to separate you, then no one should have an issue with Cronin.

This place would be basically nothing but charred embers if it happened, and it won’t, but they could do far, far worse than Chris Collins. How many Northwestern games have you watched in which you felt like the guy got straight up out-coached? Not sure I’ve ever seen 1.

Basically the inverse of calling people holier than thou or saying they're virtue signaling for saying they don't want Beard. Lol

I haven’t said that one time. I’m arguing that he’s a better coach than Cronin and that’s all I’ve said

Doug hasn't played college basketball in 10 years, lol.  I would say he's done just fine.

Don’t need to win the press conference just need to get a college basketball coach that’s a grinder and with ius resources they will be just fine

How far down do you think Louisville got before they ended up with Pat Kelsey? I’m guessing the Louisville boards lost their mind.   College of Charleston head coach is killing it at Louisville.   Kentucky hired a former Utah Valley and BYU head coach.  I’m sure Kentucky fans thought they were getting an established high major head coach.   They didn’t and Mark Pope in year 1 has that fan base as excited as they have been in a while.  These 2 will need to continue building the program however both have their programs off to a fantastic start.   Iu will be just fine in my opinion no matter who Dolson ends up hiring as long as that coach is a college basketball lifer and grinder that program will have a chance to crawl out of the mediocre hole they have been living in

Maybe they got lucky!  The issue between us and them is we haven’t been relevant primarily for over 20 years!  I don’t care about Kensucky or Louisville, we need to get a guarantee coach that can win now, no possibles or maybes

You said Huh? so thought you wanted an explanation. Never said you said any of that. Other people have on the board.

Its whatever to me who people want, we're all just sharing opinions that don't ultimately matter

As has been mentioned, creighton is a P5 team that was 6th in attendance last year.  May not be the same fishbowl but they aren’t minnows.

And lasted not even 1.5 seasons at Texas. Not so successful there.

Beard has a runner up finish and an E8 to his name. Cronin has 4 S16s, one of which was a F4 trip. Anything can happen in a single elimination tournament. Beard overall winning pct is .703, in conference is .613. Cronin's overall .683, conference .702.

Mick Cronin will be the youngest active coach to 500 career wins before the end of this season. Hardly worth crying over.

To be fair the Big 12 and SEC are tougher than Pac 12 and AAC.

I edited it. I meant at the start of his tenure at Creighton. Yes, Creighton has been a top program in the Big East for the 8-9 years.
