Everyone isn’t an innovator. Who are the true innovators in the past 50 years? Bob Knight, Paul Westhead for sure, maybe Boeheim or Pitino for their hyper-aggressive zones. Not many. Bucky McMillan is maybe the most innovative that I’ve seen mentioned in this thread. I said Gates is a really good coach… and a GREAT motivator and recruiter. Plus, I don't think IU would protect him like Kansas has done from a compliance standpoint, and he knows that. Are there any more compliance issue we need to worry about these days? High major D1 colleges now pay more than G league. But I don't mean I want Self at IU. In NIL era, IU is a MAJOR player, which has made the IU gig whole lot more attractive.
P92 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I really think it would be imperative for SD to keep the new coach’s name under wraps until the season is over. If we’re getting beat and the students start chanting the next coach’s name like the kids at the hickory huskers pep rally chanting “We want Jimmy,” it would be a royally bad look. If on the off-chance SD already has signed someone, it well may be possible to hold the info until IU looses in the B1G, if the people around you are trustworthy and buy into the vision. hoosierbannerd, Willkie71 and Chris007 3

I don't think the changing date indicates anything negative. The timing for both sides would be key so there's no reason they couldn't have adjusted the timeline of things more than once. All hypothetical, of course. lillurk 1

Even his Big Ten Championship was that team hanging on for dear life to the end. Just ran out of steam. Unfortunately, he ran his course.

I think he's learned and grown a lot and I wish someone would give him a shot somewhere. He'll always still be Tom Crean and almost all that entails, but I think especially his Indiana experience was very emotional. Very low, lows and very high, highs. His time here wore on everyone including himself. tkbbn and RoadRage 2

The inconsistency on the court was a symptom of the recruiting failures that began to plague the program after 2013. Crean burned a lot of bridges in Indiana at the HS level and AAU circuit. Coaches didn't want to send their players to IU while he was there. If he had been able to maintain those relationships and keep Kentucky, Michigan State, etc., from coming into town and taking our best players every year, things might've ended differently (or never ended at all). Crean's a good guy. And I think at this stage of life he's had more time for self-reflection and personal growth, and I think he's in a healthy spot. He definitely took his firing hard and never really recovered while coaching. It made me happy to see him call a game with John Fanta the other day, and I hope they team up to call many more. That was fun. But none of that makes me want him back as the coach. Thanks for linking the vid, definitely gonna watch that back. That was such an incredible game. And that Missouri team was a bottom feeder before him. This year they’re #15?nationally and 9-4 in the SEC. Did the same at Cleveland St. And as Hamilton’s top assistant and lead recruiter at FSU? Popular Post Motley's Posted February 20 Popular Post Posted February 20 I wouldn’t be surprised if SD had communication with one or more individuals affiliated with AAU to get feedback on what went wrong with current and previous coaches and to get opinions on what they’d like in a new coach. There is zero chance that they were told that there is an agreement with anyone. No way SD would trust them with that info to not be leaked. sixseis, go iu bb, cybergates and 11 others 11 3

As always, time will tell. I’m still rolling with Stevens as the next coach. 8bucks 1
