Everyone always brings up Jay Wright in these times but why not Tony Bennett? I’d hate his style of play but as far as a retired coach making a comeback he seems way more likely than either Wright or Beilein. I know IU screwed over his sister.

Woodson would still be coaching if Stevens wasn’t an option. We don’t these college coaches negotiating an extension right now while we can’t be talking to them.

Is it at all possible you could reword this to sound something like: "Woodson would still be coaching if the ink wasn't dry"?

He just stepped away a few months ago. Timing would seem wrong.

Beard is definitely not the floor! Let's get real. He would kill it. Alot of other coaches we will probably hire who will be worse

I’d be ecstatic about Beard, but that’s my point. If he’s the floor we should be very excited.

I say this because this is a make or break hire and you know they’re not gonna “roll the dice”. We’re almost guaranteed to get a proven commodity. And of the proven commodities that we’d go after, all of them are top 10-15 type coaches.

I'm with ya Hornsby, you could say 187 or 50 years ago.- when he played here doesn't change sh*t that Woodson as a coach sucked and sucked before he was here. Should have been obvious when there was zero demand for him. Quinn is a clown...

ok..time for my next rum and coke...

QBall just wanted to pad his, Woodson, and the other cronies supporting Woodson.

And he isn't our coach....checks out.

Rumors are fun but like someone else said....prepare to be disappointed. It usually ends up being someone no one is talking about.

Assuming it is someone that is not currently coaching, that would leave Brad Stevens, Jay Wright, Tony Bennett, and John Beilein. Beilein is 72, so probably not him. I could live with any of the 1st three.

You would scream at Drake BB!

Why? I like winning and that is all McCollum does. I couldn't care less what style of play the coach runs but I care about if that system leads to winning. If he builds a culture of winning with playing hard and players who play with emotion and passion I will be happy. Bo Ryan and Tony Bennett won consistently with a slower pace and be happy with those two.

I still don’t think Stevens will leave Boston and if that is the case, Beard should be #1 option.  He’s a winner at every stop he’s had.

I will enjoy reading the rumors and conversation here but truthfully have no idea who the coach will be until it’s officially announced. Hopefully it’s at least by the time the portal opens on March 24. The sooner the better obviously. Curious to see how they build their staff.

Good point about the staff.  I listened to a little of Dakich last week and he made an interesting point about the quality of Sampson's assistant coaches versus Woodson's assistants.  I know most people don't like Dakich, but I thought that point was valid.

This is his 1st year in D1, not convinced.  We can’t afford to hire a guy who’s only had less than 1 year D1 coaching experience.  NO!!!

Dude, that would suck big time!

He definitely wouldn't be one of my top choices but I wouldn't be upset with the hire either. Like I said earlier OSU football hired a coach from Youngstown State and he won them a championship. I think if you proven you are a winner no matter the level that usually translates to the next level. I am talking consistently winning and not making one great run in the tournament
