General Coach Candidate News

People are just stupid but it's the flavor of the decade. Beilein would be a good hire. Just not sure we can afford the name brand walkers and velcro shoes.

To be fair the two leading candidates for leader of the free world were 74 and 78. I have a hard time believing that 68 is too old to start something new. The ageism on here makes no sense. Now if you want to argue the semantics of his 'thugs' comment, that is a valid reason to forgo an offer. Of all the people mentioned for this job, I could make a pretty strong argument that Belien is far and away the best actual Coach on the list, and it really isn't that close from a resume standpoint. Not that I want him, just making a counterpoint. Would 6-10 really good years of Belien really not be intriguing to you because it couldn't parlay into 20 or 30 years because of his age? I am looking for someone who could coach up, recruit good players and win games, and restore the shine to this job. I believe that is the most important thing for the next hire. It does not necessarily need to be a IU lifer, but it needs to be someone who can win, and make this place desirable again. We can as fans, rose color the job all we want, but the reality, is there have been six (counting DD) consecutive coaches fired. Not moved on, not retired, not lost to the NBA, fired. If I am a high major coach on the come up, I am thinking long and hard before I consider a career move that history says will end in me being fired. That is why a hire like Matta or Belien made/makes sense.

Or is he purposely letting people know he went after someone that he knew would say no?

I'm thinking the above ....... as we've speculated he is letting people know he will talk to whoever he darn well pleases!!

And if he'll call up the active coach at a conference rival, I have even more faith that he'll be calling on Muss and Oats.

My dad's hero... Our house ran on "Lombardi time" (ie.. 15 minutes early is "on time")

My grandpa and dads motto:
15 minutes early is on time
On time is late
And late is unacceptable.

It is right now. IU has the higher ceiling, but right now they are even at best.

How? They can’t fill their arena when they’re ranked and it’s never ever going to come close to football. We’ve had more recent tourney success and we haven’t even made it in 5 years.

Katz just did on Gottlieb show that he thinks Texas is a better job than IU.  Haha come on bro

CBS article was arguing that Marquette is a better job.  Texas has a ton of money and a little less scrutiny.  The basketball program is a distraction.

Indiana's leadership screwed the pooch with this program.  College coaches are informed through the grapevine and from reading the same stuff we do.  How do you think Sampson, Crean, and Miller talk about their time hear?  We already know what the media is saying about us.

If we end up with an "Indiana guy" or some other WTF hire, that should tell you how this job is viewed.  It is criminal what has been done to ruin this brand since Knight was let go.

My dad had a similar way of saying it.

If you're early, you're on time.

If you're on time, you're late.

If you're late, you're fired.
