8bucks Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 I thought someone was just joking about Marshall several pages back anyway. Not sure anyone would want Tom Crean's twin with that baggage even if he is more consistent that TC. lillurk 1

Hoosierfan2017 Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Scott Drew would be a good hire. P5 experience. Success at that level. Good recruiter. Indiana ties. We could do worse. Unfortunately, I think we probably will.
Trish Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 If we're considering the best available coach right now, the answer is easy. John Beilein. He can coach. He can win. He can win in the best conference in America. He might be able to recruit pending his staff. Yes, he's 68 years of age. But come on, we have older coaches in the NCAA currently and the NBA. Why he even left Michigan is odd but nonetheless, he's available. He's not the type of person to sit around and golf each morning. Build a staff around him and we'll see better better basketball without a doubt. He's realistic in the sense due to his availability. If we somehow make the change this year then John needs to be on the list. He needs to be Top 3 on the list and he needs to be called before you consider Drew. It would be a great hire for Dolson and 100% safe. Outside of Brad Stevens, this is my ideal candidate for the position here at Indiana. mark1981, Jeff_Boy_Ardee, IU - Kaulie and 3 others 6

As someone else mentioned he's 72 so not really a candidate but he looks 52. Wouldn’t be a good candidate for some. He missed the tournament his first 6 years at FSU and had a lot of seasons where he finished under .500 in conference before he made the tourney. Hamilton would be an example of an administration sticking with their guy and in the long run worked out. You could argue he is the best recruiter today at 72 only behind Cal and K HoosierAloha, thebigweave and Chris007 3
LamarCheeks Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Re Gregg Marshall. To those not on this bandwagon, hop on. Not only would we get a coach who is abusive of his players and reportedly has an ego the size of the state of Texas -- but we'd get Mrs. Marshall patrolling the stands at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, tossing back a few beverages and berating officials. mamasa, thebigweave, cchuntsman and 1 other 2 2

I think you are right as long as we are not talking him into coaching again. If he is genuinely interested he would easily come in after the dream candidates.

What if it takes him a few years to get IU going as it did with Michigan. Then he's in his 70's coaching IU to get into the tourney. I'm just hoping for someone younger so we have our coach for the next so many years. Trish, lillurk, Stuhoo and 2 others 5
woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 You guys do realize that I am not advocating for Marshall. I am well aware of his history. It was more tongue in cheek. I don't want him. My point was Treesh constantly brings up Stevens. That ain't going to happen either Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk Jeff_Boy_Ardee 1
Trish Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 It should be noted that Nate Oats is probably eliminated from the running, his buy-out number is $12.5 million dollars https://www.al.com/alabamabasketball/2021/02/details-on-nate-oats-new-19-million-contract-buyout-structure.html Chris007, HoosierDYT and lillurk 3

Ryno6284 Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 I would like Belein as well, just can’t see him coming back to the B1G and coaching against a team he left! And are doing quite well I might add.

Anything is possible I suppose and hiring a young pup intrigues me but man if we strike out again with a young guy..

True but he was in the NCAA tournament and won a game in year 2 and year 4 then things took off in year 6 but from year 3 on he was in the tournament all but 1 year. So it was slow but it was what we expect here despite national folks saying we expect a championship in year 4.

rcbowla Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Ok so I did the best I could here. If anyone has any different or additional info by all means please share. Private universities are not obligated to release contract info. NBA teams apparently do not have to either? An (NA) simply means the info is not available or applicable. Buyouts can also be tricky to decipher at times so I'm sure there are some that are wrong or missing. I apologize if I missed anyone's candidate. Next post will be the list of 35 candidates. kreigh8 Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Mrs Marshall would have more fire in the stands than some of our players show on the floor. But that's for another thread. Not going to happen, but her husband can coach for sure.
