Because the upside is exponentially less than the downside with our level of patience and current state of the program.  Someone can hit the lottery, sure, but it will be a massive undertaking to shift the culture.

I guess that's where I disagree with the take. I think "just win, baby" fixes everything pretty fast.

If someone took the job and was really successful quickly, which is very possible in the NIL era, wouldn't they be treated like a God in the most basketball crazy state there is given how long IU has been consistently mediocre / crappy?

And the downside is what? You're not successful fast enough or ever, so you get fired and leave a multi-millionaire??

I think it's interesting how people were convinced Dusty May wouldn't come here because he just changed jobs a year ago, but we never hear that with McCollum or DeVries.

It’s an entirely different situation really. Dusty’s already in a P2 conference and immediately demonstrated to himself and the admin he can be successful there.

I believe this. Looks like IU or extension at WVU for DD.

I thought that before this news came out. I would not be surprised if he stays at WVU with a raise and more NIL. Iowa will turn to McCollum and  my guess is he will jump at it.

I think this is where all the Stevens, white whale, big fish rumors hurt the program. I appreciate the insiders as they have brought the goods on recruiting. But I said this before and I’ll say it again the insiders have never been right on the coaching searches. I’ve been around since before Sampson was hired and each times the insiders would throw out these rumors, and it was always false. But let’s not crucify them. Let’s just back the next coach. If it’s DeVries, let’s support him and the program. He is a damn good coach and would be our best coach since Sampson.

Rumors don't hurt a program....losing for 25 years does...

Yes and no to me.  Once you win here, you are expected to stay on that same trajectory.  Or close to peak levels year after year.  Most places if you made an elite 8 run every 5 years, you write your own check.  That would get you fired here.

I'm calling the shot; the left field candidate is clearly CTC. Sorry friends, will have to leave the forum once it becomes official. The salary will be lower on purpose to recruit better players. Welcome back to the Hurryin' Hoosiers!

It does create a toxic environment from the fanbase. Which isn’t healthy. And the next coach won’t have an anything to do with sucking for 25 years. Everyone needs to get behind him. Whoever it is.

I feel like I'm missing something here, but why does Kory Barnett hate IU so much? I understand Tom Ostrom and Chester Frazier...

Lack of playing time?

IDK, he was a walk-on, and seemed to be liked by the fanbase.... known as the Human Victory Cigar
