Agreed! It's interesting how me asking about Scott Drew is absurd and never an option, but Brad Stevens is not.

Unless something changed we have had a lot of discussions on Drew.  Who said he was absurd?

I see Trish’s comment now but recently Drew was discussed by Chris as a top target so who knows

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE it if Stevens were coming. However, like @Ghost of Rick Majerus stated, it makes no logical sense for IU to employ a search firm if he were already the guy. Odds are that he was out when Goodman first posted about it.

I'm willing to entertain the outside possibility of many things. That doesn't necessarily mean I blindly believe them.

There are plenty of logical reasons to doubt the Stevens-to-IU rumors. There's still just a silly part of me that holds out the tiniest sliver of hope that he's coming.

Even if we don't get him, I do believe there is a great hire still to be made. And I have faith in Dolson.

Assuming we make the NCAA tournament, I don't think we're going to hear anything at earliest until we lose in it. Assuming we don't make it to the sweet 16, that means we'd hear something no earlier than between 3/20 and 3/23. And even then, we'd only hear something if our new coach is available, meaning either it's Brad/Jay Wright/Tony Bennett, etc. or our new coach's team has also already lost.

We can kinda start to figure out things by process of elimination once we lose and other teams start losing. Say we lose 3/20 and Iowa State, for example, gets upset on 3/22, but Drake makes the sweet 16. If we don't hear anything by that following week (3/23 on), we can probably assume Brad/Jay Wright/Tony Bennet/ and also Otz, are not the new coach, but perhaps McCollum is.

Not saying he is a genius or a fortune teller...but this is exactly when @Chris007 implied Stevens would be done with the Celtics several hundred pages back :)

Stars aligning?...

Just kidding, to an extent.  I am one-foot-off and one-foot-on the BS train...makes for one heck of a ride!

Totally agree. This was the moment that I knew Stevens was a fairy tale.
The best "evidence" for Stevens was the silence. When we started to hear that other coaches were being contacted by IU's search firm, I knew Stevens was out.
We likely never " had our guy". I am sure they reached out, and he probably listened but said no. Same with may. Now it's anyones guess who they are after.

But why would we still be interviewing guys? For many reasons but I'll leave it at that. You have a lot of wiggle room when you have a McCollum yes in your back pocket if anything happens.

This is what I mean man, Chris comes in and just has a lil somethin to say and the Brad train is back rollin. Let's ride!

My gut tells me it's going to be McCollum. I will be fine with him. Just my opinion. Someone will give him a chance. Why not us.

I mentioned your handle because if it all ends up happening, it was incredible version of the stars aligning and your information being great...I'm hoping that it happens!

Personally, I have no idea why we would still be interviewing if we have a soft/verbal from a candidate, other than that we actually dont....or they are interviews for a position other than head coach, if that's what you were implying.

My guess is because BS has been on the hook before but got away. Until he signs, announced and starts the job I think it is a risk with him.

When the retirement was announced, there was resounding exuberance. The anticipation was building. We’ve had the wind taken out of our sails a few times since the top tier seem very unlikely… now people are grappling with this uncertainty for probably 2 more weeks or so. This search is starting to feel like being flayed alive lol

Only because of the timing. If Woodson was let go the day of IU's final loss, then that would officially start the clock. Archie was hired on March 25th. Mike Woodson was hired March 28th. It's still early. The other openings, so far, weren't targeting coaches that IU would have hired. VA and NC ST may be competition, but no KY, no LVille, no MI this round.

Kentucky finished 6th in the SEC. That’s worse than every Calipari year except for one

Finished 6th in a historically good SEC.  This year sec is being considered the best conference ever and they will probably get 13 teams in.    Don’t think Calipari had to deal with this many good teams in the sec.   3 are projected 1 seeds and a couple others 2 and 3 range.   Sec this year is ridiculous
