Hoosierfan2017 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Not sure how to feel about Sparks. A lot of the talk over the past two seasons was how Woody didn’t want to play the type of offense we did but had to because of the personnel we had. Sparks seems to fit how we’ve played in the past, not how Woody purportedly wants to play moving forward. Quote

I'm not familiar with the Ball St. offense Lewis runs. Quote

Sparks gives IU a post option without requiring the touches or the offense to be run through him as TJD did. We're never going to be completely devoid of post play, barring massive recruiting failures. J34, thebigweave, Hardwood83 and 2 others 5 Quote
dwtaylor1055 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 unless Malik turns into a TJD or better type of player in the post, our offense won't be required to go through a big in the post. Alot of our success went through TJD at the beginning of each possession. hoosierbgh, lillurk and thebigweave 3 Quote
Golfman25 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Yeah, I am not sure Sparks is either of the two names mentioned. And height for height's sake is what it is, I guess. Hope he proves me wrong. Just kind of an underwhelming first get, IMO. (assuming this all plays out). Nevertheless, once he joins, I'll be his biggest supporter -- as he's one of our guys. taco corp 1 Quote

Underwhelming would be one of the last descriptors I'd use.. I can't understand why Sparks off the bench won't be a great thing for our roster. And no, he's probably not as good as the two mentioned... he's pretty clearly leaps and bounds ahead of Durr, Duncomb, and JG, though. hoosierbgh, MemphisHoosier, BGleas and 3 others 6 Quote
Popular Post RaceToTheTop Posted March 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 27, 2023 Sparks was freshman of the year in the MAC. As a sophomore he was a 13/9/2 player on a 20 win team. Just like you don’t go after height for height’s sake, you don’t go after athletes for athlete’s sake. Sparks knows the game and can play. If all it took was athletes than JG would be a 30 minute guy. hoosierbgh, MemphisHoosier, lillurk and 8 others 11 Quote

The only way that would be an issue would be if Reneau and Sparks play together, which based on what Woodson has said, I'd have to think they'll be the 5 platoon. Even with a more free-flowing offense, not run through the post, you still need two bigs. As has been mentioned, Reneau is foul prone and goes through defensive lapses. You'd have Reneau at something like 25mpg and Sparks at something like 15-20mpg. Maybe 5 of those minutes are together. Hardwood83, thebigweave, Hoosierinbham and 2 others 5 Quote
