reconmkd Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 As much as I dislike Izzo, his interview on BTN was really nice and I had no clue that they were somewhat close. I expect we are still going to be learning new stories and connections that Coach had over the years. Demo, thebigweave and Loaded Chicken Sandwich 3 Quote

In regards to Coach Knight, I really appreciated what he had to say about him. I sort of liked him for a little bit in that short video...lol You just don't realize the positive impact Coach Knight had on coaches everywhere. We are really starting see the tremendous impact and positive influence he had on people not directly associated with IU.... Powerful stuff! reconmkd and thebigweave 2 Quote

Bobby Knight and Assembly will forever be connected at the hip. They both debuted at the same time and won together for 29 years. The court, the arena, the Hall.. all synonymous with Bobby Knight and only Bobby Knight. Chris007, realTomCrean, reconmkd and 3 others 6 Quote
OliviaPope40 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I would post the radio show video but since this is a family site it's not wholesome for tiny ears. Quote

Many IU fan, specifically us older guys do know this. All due respect to IU, Coach McCraken and all he did for IU basketball, but Coach Knight is and always be the pinnacle of Indiana Basketball. Speaking for myself, I want Coach Knight memorialized in a big way by adding his name to the court or to the "Hall". This would be paramount. JMO. reconmkd, Joe_hoopsier and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote
fwgreenway Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 To the family of Coach Knight, my family and I want to extend our condolences. You and Coach will always have a place in our hearts. Thanks so much for all that you have done for the people of Indiana. I am another that fell in love with Indiana Basketball during the 70's. Coach Knight had a major impact on that fandom! Scotty R Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I was born in September of 1970 so RMK was the only coach at IU I knew. I don't think some of the younger fans realize what IU basketball was like in the 70's and 80's. I am not saying this as a bad thing but IU basketball was like a cult for the fans. Most people I knew scheduled their day around IU basketball on game day. We as a family would sit together and watch every game. It was a different time where there were less things to occupy your time. We only had 1 TV in the house early on so it was a family thing to do. There were no cable or streaming outlets so you only had 4 channels to choose from. I also watched every pre game show to watch coach RMK break down the game plan. Every Sunday morning I would watch the Bob Knight show on channel 4 tkbbn, str8baller, ALASKA HOOSIER and 3 others 6 Quote

hoosierbgh Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 RIP Coach Knight. I was at IU when he was fired and was fortunate enough to attend his last game in Assembly Hall. It was my first game in person and fittingly enough, a solid win over Purdue. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

HoosierFan1994 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 Extremely sad day. I haven't had the time to come on here until now. Really enjoy reading all the stories about him. I was born in 1994 so my memories are at the tail end of his time at IU. Growing up in Indiana, the most popular man wearing red with white hair was not Santa. It was Bob Knight. My first memories of sports are sitting on my grandpa's lap to watch Bobby Knight. I remember hearing he was no longer the coach at IU and how big of a deal that was. A few of the things that really stand out to me: 1) What he accomplished at IU from 1972-1994 will never be done again in program history. 3 National Titles in 12 years. 5 Final Fours. 11 Big Ten Titles. Made the Sweet 16 a total of 14 times. 2) He really should have 5 National Titles. At least a total of four. That is a fact. Scott May in 1975. Alan Henderson in 1993. 3) 98% four year graduation rate. Unheard of. 4) Isiah was his only NBA-All Star player. Sure he had 1st round picks and solid NBA players. 5) He didn't win with 5 star recruits. Tolbert, Isiah, Edwards, Damon, and Alan were probably the best of his MDA's. He developed 3/4 stars into great players. I am so glad he was able to return to Assembly Hall in 2020. That was a great moment to see. Joe_hoopsier, reconmkd, ALASKA HOOSIER and 2 others 5 Quote

FF vs Wooden and UCLA ... had the foul call between Steve Downing and Bill Walton gone the other way (the correct way), THAT could have been title #1.
