TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

absolutely, me included. If he does that consistently then my dismay will be null. One 16-2 in conference performance in 8 seasons means very little. We don't have to ever worry about this though so this is a moot point

I didn't mean that as a negative either. I have my mind made up I just got the vibe from the games this year that it won't happen this year.

I'm going to up the ante...

I'm willing to bet that this same thread is running active in Jan,2018...with the same coach of Tom Crean at the helm...

edit...I just realized something...given the lifespan of fanpages...Tom Crean is the odds on favorite to outlast this site...

I'm sure to make some enemies...

I'll take some of that.   If he's here in 2018, I'll be beyond shocked.  The man has never won anything.   That cannot happen at Indiana.  Iowa, Michigan State, Maryland, and Purdue are all better than Indiana, so we're at best 5th in the Big Ten if we played a complete schedule in the man's 8th season.  Not good enough.  He has the excuse of a Blackmon injury, but people are smarter than that.  Indiana has two even decent wins this season, and the only good team we played beat us easily by 20.  We lost to two mediocre teams, and struggle at both ends of the floor.  That can't last 3 more seasons, and if it can, I'll have given up by then.  Crean is at best mediocre...he was fine digging Indiana out, but he's plateaued.  It doesn't take a genius to see that....or even a competent AD.   If the University doesn't care enough about the program to make a very necessary change, I'm not sure why any of us would support it.  I'm in.

I've said it before, I think Glass is just a Crean fanboy.  I don't think we get a new coach unless we get a new AD.  He pays lip service to having expectations, but doesn't actually have any.

Now, he's welcome to prove me wrong by firing Crean.  It's not like it'd be undeserved.  If he proves me wrong, I'll admit I was wrong.

Michigan and O$U have both been better than us the last 4 seasons as well.  I did the research before and still have it saved somewhere in spreadsheets.  We were 5th best in the conference behind UW, MSU, O$U, and MSU the last 4 seasons.  Now you have to accunt for Maryland too.  UW has dropped off a bit but pu and Iowa have passed us.  After this season I could see IU being around 6th or 7th best over the last 5 seasons.  So we've settled into that middle tier B1G team after Crean "stabilized" the program.

Yes we are on an uncharacteristic winning streak for Crean's standards, though I'm not sold on the quality of opponents we've defeated, and admittedly our defense has been improved, coincidentally or maybe not, since JBj has been out, but I still do not have confidence that Crean has finally figured it out, and will take us to the Promised Land.

However, with the way this season is going, unless we monumentally collapse (which is still possible), I don't see any way Crean gets fired this off-season.

To me it still comes down to what happens in march. If we make the tournament and how we do in it. Winning the big ten would counter a poor tourney though imo. Today was a great game for sure from our guys but only problem is it is one of the only games we didn't look absolutely foolish for a majority of it. I am going to enjoy the winning streak and the renewed excitement in the program while expecting the old habits and problems to resurface and leave us feeling disappointed.

The team is playing much better D and is much more fun to watch. I am enjoying watching the team and look forward to seeing if we can continue to win the games we should. I am also very interested to see if we can get some wins against top 25 teams.

Even though we lost JBj, this team still has talent and experience to be an elite 8 team. I will measure this team in the end based on BT play, BT tournament play and NCAA play. I think to keep Crean he has to have a team that exceeds expectations, especially in the post season.

It baffles me how some people think a few wins makes up for Creans entire tenure here. I'm not sure if it's more sad or pathetic to be honest.

This is pretty much my stance.  The team looked good today, but one game shouldn't change anything.  His current results here would've already gotten him fired at the other blue bloods, and probably a couple teams that aren't quite on that level historically.  He's still a coach that in nearly 20 total years hasn't really won much of anything.

I hated to miss the game but was working a trade show. Ran into a good customer from Indiana who is also a grad and went to the Morehead State game. She said there was definate booing when Crean came out into the court, and she could not believe how empty Assembly Hall was. We reminisced about the good ole days when the hall was packed for every game even during Christmas break. Crean has lost most of the fans and short of a final four run must go. Winning big is what he hasnt done.

interesting I have been to 5 games this year mostly in the non conference and while the seats were not full I didn't hear boo's when he was announced. Today was as loud as assembly hall has been in the last 2 years and the students were not fully back ( the pa announcer said there was 16,000 plus there which concidering students not back and wheather is pretty good). I would imagine we will finish in the top 2 in big 10 attendance again this year and top 10 nationally like we were last year
