"Exposed in the playoff" OK kind of like Oregon? We get dinged for the playoff performance but no credit for the wins. We beat a team you have going 9-3 by 50 points (Nebraska).

Based off Nebraska's showing last night against a very pedestrian Cincinnati team, I don't think '9-3' is realistic for them. Btw, Sorsby leaving was a good thing, he runs well, but can't throw....at all.

It's a pathetic scheme. He's better than Tayven, by example.

We would run rule both Cinci and Nebraska, though.

Stealing this from an x post

Who do you think is the biggest breakout candidate on the Hoosier defense this year?
Ex: Rolijah Hardy last year.

Stephen Daley will be in discussion for all conference and we won't stop talking about all the good things Louis Moore will do on the field by the end of the season.

With all the turnover in the coaching carousel and IU being in a stable and high performing position, hopefully we can land a monster portal haul. Excited to follow football recruiting after our second consecutive CFP appearance.

Pretty nuts when the first major "name" to allegedly go portaling (Leavitt) immediately is getting penciled in as IU's next starter by non-IU people online. Right, wrong, indifferent it's just a wild perception shift.

He seems to be a good fit for our system.  Him as the starter and Alberto as our backup.  Not a bad spot.

I would predict if we brought in another sure starter at QB that Alberto will look elsewhere

In today's environment you have to look at every player as a 1-year rental.  Bring in a Leavitt and Alberto could decide to shop around.  Just the way it is today.

That’s fair.  I like Alberto my big thing is we have had success with experienced QBs do we change up the formula?  If so we basically won’t be able to recruit freshmen QBs.

Do we change up the formula though.  Years in the system could be worth something.

Sure is.

I don’t want Medoza to ever leave. lol.  He’s one of my all tie favorites. Just and awesome human being.  Smart, tough, the most ideal teammate.

He will be greatly missed.

Coach Cig knows ball, but he has a tough decision to make next year on if Alberto can be the guy.  I think the formula of finding the 6’5” guy  that has the skill set and mentality out of the portal is hard to ignore especially as our ability to hand pick the guy increases.

On the one hand, have to assume Cig will definitely want to add quality depth across the board and have guys compete.

On the other hand, Alberto has been through a lot with Cig and will be going into his third year in the system. Committed at JMU, followed to IU, got his older brother to come here over Georgia and others... they've been through a lot together and I don't think that can be totally discounted.

In the end I expect we take a quality QB transfer but I don't think it'll be a given that they beat out Alberto for the starting spot.

Without a transfer, we would have Alberto, RS Fr Jacob Bell, true frosh Cash Herrera, and maybe Tyler Cherry if he returns? Gotta think we bring in someone big

I obviously trust the staff, but I’d think we take advantage of this Fernando momentum (wins, Heisman chance, draft pick) and try and get another big time QB in the portal.  Obviously a guy like Fernando makes a big difference!

But, I’ll just watch a learn with this staff.  If they like Alberto that’s cool.  He shorter with less arm strength that Fernando, but he’s more athletic and has been in the system a long time.  The staff really like him.

Great discussion!

I betcha the staff already has a pretty good idea about whether Alberto will be our main guy next year.

100%

As for the style aspect mentioned above, it’s worth noting that Cig had some DAMN good JMU teams with QBs that leaned more toward running. Jordan McCloud was a dawg. Todd Centeio was too. The Doza/Rourke build has been good to us, but don’t think we’re married to it either.

I'm not sure Cignetti would want Leavitt. His completion percentages are much lower than both Rourke's and Mendoza's were before coming to IU. It could be due to personnel around him and/or scheme, but I think that is something the staff really values.

I think Wayne kind hit on the one thing that might hold Alberto back.  He’s listed at 6-2.

From the limited game samples of Alberto, I would think that what could potentially hold him back is not his height, but that he might not have enough pop in his arm to throw the whole route tree.
