You don’t mess around a low ball your top priority at the biggest position of need. If they have a number they are willing to go then go there. Close the deal. Don’t fall on your face at the finish line and allow someone to slide in there. Houston was rumored to offer 3.25 and he turned it down because we rumored to offer more. We don’t then rescind that offer and go lower bc the competition couldn’t match. Thats a great way to sour the relationship and burn the deal all together.

While I’ll agree on the surface. It’s staggering. But it’s become the cost of doing business and when you look at the top teams/programs and look at what they are spending, it means we need to up our contributions to keep stride. Maybe we wanted 12. Maybe we find we need to do 16-18. Idk. Other programs seem to find ways. Hoping we can keep up with the Jones until some more realistic cap is figured out. A lot of these Nil payments get funneled through Not for profits and therefore can become tax loopholes for the extreme wealthy to make charitable donations. I don’t like it one bit but I strongly believe this is what is happening at many institutions. (Stuhoo or someone can correct me if I’m way off base here)

That’s all anyone has to offer besides the connection with a coach. Virginia won a title 6 yrs ago and they’re not getting discounts. Who’s lining up to play at Purdue or MSU on a discount? Not even Houston, UK or Kansas seem to get them. Guys routinely passing up money to play for a specific program…Michigan and Duke? Maybe. A couple other programs…Maybe. But mostly it’s recruiting and money. Or so it seems to me.

I can understand having some trepidation with Harris. But you are going to have to hope to hit on some guys like that to be successful. Jasai Miles had proven production at a lower level, and it meant absolutely nothing when he got to a P4 school. The logic can work both ways. Personally I'm ok taking a shot on the guy with more natural talent.

It shows a lot of maturity on his part, I felt like he should have gotten more playing time but he seems to have accepted that he had work to do and was willing to do it! Hopefully that pays off for him big time next season and going forward.

Screw those guys. Support the program or find a new one. It’s fine to critique but anyone who thinks woody was the answer or needed time has an agenda. We had half the roster last season compared to what woody had his final year and had equal results. Let that sink in. Get DeVries a Big Ten caliber roster and we will be cooking with gas.

IU isn’t in a great spot. But even in our current state we are still a bit more than just money. To get commits we need to sell fit with the roster, development plan, the staff, exposure, playing in AH, and facilities and all that. Some of this is still appealing. We aren’t entirely chopped liver.

I would prefer Brumbaugh over one of Harris/Mustaf but that’s just because I prefer two ball handlers in the lineup over one. Mustaf and Harris seem like true wings whereas Brumbaugh is a combo guard.

That haralson money can go toward Nik. I would like that

FWIW, Rabjohns mentioned last Sunday he thought it would be 3-5 days after the portal opened before we would see our first signing. Today is day 5, but his point was that it would be several days before we got anything.

I think the other issue creating the perception of being "behind" is because IU has nearly their entire roster to refill. This is almost a situation like the school getting a new coach with the few players on the roster right now. With as many spots to fill as IU has, it is imperative that early signings occur. Momentum is a very real thing, and this program has absolutely none of it right now.

How are we “behind” exactly? I have zero clue how negative Nancie’s have takes like these when something like 50 players out of 3,000 in the portal have committed to this point.

Burton/Mustaf/Sherrell? That would be incredible. EDIT: Burton/Mustaf/Harris is also a solid start, but obviously a big would still be a big question mark.
