  1. Ed Orgeron is reportedly interested in the Oregon State job. Seriously -- is there a more perfect match than Ed Orgeron and Oregon State? Please -- make that happen ... the future of Orgeron State depends on it. https://athlonsports.com/college-football/ed-orgeron-eyes-return-to-coaching-at-oregon-state

  3. Per Lasley, he was supposed to hit campus this afternoon. I would imagine he would be glaringly obvious behind the bench tonight. Assume Karvala will be there as well. Apparently Karvala had a very nice game yesterday against one of the OTE teams.

    (2026) S Matt Sieg

#173 overall/#16 four star safety. A Penn State potential decommit. Visiting this weekend; ND visit scheduled afterwards; hopefully it doesn't get that far. https://247sports.com/player/matt-sieg-46144296/

  5. The extension was a statement of relevance. It said we are not only here, we are here to stay. The traditional 'good ol' boys' club needs to get used to it. In racing they always say, 'speed costs money, how fast do you want to go'. Apparently, in football, we want to go pretty fast!

  6. He's not a scapegoat. He's a punchline, because he's made himself a laughing stock with his tired shtick, lol. I don't think he's a villain. He's not that consequential. I think he's just a rage baiting hack and find that worthy of derision. Just one guy's opinion. Agree, this contract was a no brainer and good for everybody. Future is bright for IUFB.

  8. And he does it so unapologetically. If UF or Arkansas signed Cig to that exact same deal he'd be raving about their aggression and the SEC's reach and ability to draw the best and banging away at IU for being too cheap or small-time to keep him.

  10. Diebler also seems to be thinking that locking down a national top 10 player from Ohio will help him avoid the hot seat. He’s willing to burn through funds for that. imo landing AT and having an impact on another B1G 10 coach’s job security would be the cherry on top. It really seems like AT and whoever he talks to about his bball decisions know IU is the better situation, but it’s unknown how much that’s worth (is the delta between IU’s offer and OSU offset by the difference between playing for DDV and Diebler)

  11. Psshh... The only good news is that a 20 year old kid isn't injured. At least, I think he isn't - he's left for the concussion tent two weeks in a row and they apparently are going to throw him in there anyway. We also knocked him out the game against us last year, and now he gets to again become the middle of a mashed Kamara/Landino sandwich. For me? I'd like to see their 5'7" walk-on QB play the whole game so that IU wins 173-0.

  12. If the $3 million tag is true (and that is a substantial 'If'), then this is all about budgeting and player projections. In other words, is this 18 year old 5* so impactful that he is worth chewing up way more of the budget then a 21 year old player like Reed Bailey or Lamar Wilkerson would. In this rapidly changing era, this is where a staff can really earn their keep. I tend to think the 21 year olds are a better program investment, but each player is different and in part, that's why Devries and co. are getting the title and the big bucks.

  13. It is wild to me when people get upset about how other people spend their money. SEC shill clutches his pearls over our spend. People here were upset we paid so much for Tom Allen's buyout. People everywhere get upset about paying players as much as we do. Let the rich people have fun. It's not your money lol.

  14. Dude says that Cig is not in Kirby Smart or Ryan Day’s league, but I doubt even they could’ve done what Cig has done in his first 1.5 years at IU. I think I’d take him over every single other coach in the country all other things equal.

  16. The color commentator is the poor soul who’s spent the last 6 days getting dunked on for the “Oregon’s OL outweighs Indiana’s DL” tweet. Nice to see him get a W lol. Edit: he may be the lead guy. I can’t tell their voices apart.

  18. Exactly. Haralson was a "Woody sux but Micah does not suck" situation.
    4 points
  19. Except ND didn’t pay more for Haralson than we were offering. We’ve definitely been used in the past to get bids moved up. But this wasn’t a more than situation. It was an equal to but “better fit” estimation.

  28. I realize it’s “just how it’s done” but I find the buyouts interesting/one sided in that when coaches get fired they receive all the money they were contractually guaranteed (for doing a bad job) but if they leave for a competitor they only have to cough up 2-20% of the value of the contract. Pretty good deal/situation.

  30. I found the article. It was written by Vibbs, who is from Indiana. While the title is definitely just to grab clicks, the actual article did call it a great hire and exactly what IU needed.

  31. There's also the 'Woodson effect' of getting more money from somewhere that may not develop you very well. Diebler seems to be an example of that Woodson effect.

  32. If we lose Haines or Shanahan it won't be for more money at a different program for the same position. It will be for a head coaching job, which we won't be able to do much about if that's what they want. But unlike the Allen era, the school is committed to the program and will pay for a qualified replacement. Obviously I'd love to keep them for as long as possible; but if they do leave for a head coaching job, I have faith in Cig and IU to fill those positions out successfully.

  34. Osterman said he expects this contract to include an increase for the staff budget. How much has not come out yet. Also likely includes more NIL commitments too, but obviously that won’t be laid out in the contract as we know.
    3 points
  35. Gotta think if money can keep Haines (and Shanny) around, we’ll do what it takes. There’s going to be a TON of quality head coaching openings this year unfortunately. Just about the best problem you can have though.

  36. Really hope/expect that this investment extends to the rest of the staff. Would love to retain Haines if possible but that is probably a very tall order.

  37. Cig’s $15mil buyout to leave is 3 times that of Kirby Smart, per Osterman.

  38. I would still love to understand why Dakich is a scapegoat with IU fans. He was around for 17 years and knows. He loves Cignetti and completely supportive of IU and of Cignetti. His delivery isn't for some, but anyone is welcome to let me know when he's been flat wrong or lied about anything relative to IU athletics. No, he isn't bitter he didn't get the basketball job. No, he and Bob Knight were never close and Knight was not exactly loyal to him. I would really love to understand why he became a villain. This contract was a no brainer. Good for all involved.

  40. Cig’s salary went from around 5% of our athletic dept revenue to 7%. It’s really not a huge deal to pay him this much. And with the increase in FB program revenue he’s likely going to pay for himself and then some. FB is the only sport that can make big $ in an athletic dept. Once again, great work Scott, Pam, donors, and IU.

  41. I think he will retire in Bloomington but would have liked that buyout to be 30,000,000+ as 15mm is peanuts for too many schools.

  43. DDV Zoom meeting with the media today - The following is from various X accounts. Nick Dorn (foot): Starting to work his way back in some action, not expected to play in Friday's exhibition, probably doubtful for Baylor exhibition, but is making good progress, per coach Darian DeVries. Says team is a lot more connected defensively since they played in Puerto Rico. Also says wants ball movement on offense. IU had 31 assists to 3 turnovers in a recent practice. Says Aleksa Ristic and Jason Drake will both be out when the season begins. This will likely keep the early rotation down to 7-8 players, will go up to 9-10 once they are back, DeVries says. DeVries says most of their offensive and defensive install is in, now it's a matter of tweaking things based on how they are guarded and adding new wrinkles. Darian DeVries said that he likes the lineup of Reed Bailey and Sam Alexis, but have been limited in using it in the summer due to lack of depth. Said he would love to use it this season when there is an opportunity to. Darian DeVries what he's seen & learned from Curt Cignetti: "We've used football as a reference for why they're good ... we want to be elite in not turning it over ... elite in our discipline ... elite in our toughness."

On my way to Btown to take my mind off getting my last paycheck until our esteemed elected officials uncork their heads out of their a$$es and decide to open the government back up! If it doesn’t happen sooner than later, I will likely have some tix to offer, if anyone is interested!
