Love this opening statement from Bielema here, and what this implies about Cig, the program and leadership.

This may be my favorite message board post of the night, and it’s from an Illinois fan on an Illinois board. This Illini fan was at the game. His impressions:

Teams take after their coaches. Allen would’ve been doing cartwheels since the second quarter if he ever had a game like this at IU while Coach Cig looks like he’s having the worst day of his life while he’s up 63-10.

Somewhere in the south Paul Finebaum is in a padded room rocking back and forth right now.

Cig clearly did not. He began pulling starters at the end of the third quarter and didn't throw a pass in the fourth quarter. Illinois was mentally and physically broken in the second half. Cig could have named the score.

I’m really enjoying various football media and our own team account posting some variation of: Who is this year’s Indiana? Indiana. In ESPN’s FPI, we are up 10 spots to #6. It would be great if Illinois can beat USC at home next week. Sheesh… what a night.

I’m in NYC. My daughter and I started at 6:30am, moved her from Boston to NYC in a UHaul truck. Finished with Indian food in West Harlem at 7:00pm. She went out to party and I had a big ol IUFB party in a quiet apartment. A sublime day.

Haven’t been to a game at Illinois in over 10 years so I don’t have that to compare it to, but I’ve been to a lot of games at a lot of different places and for a basketball school we absolutely know how to bring it. That game tonight was miles louder and more energetic than the CFP game. But for the love of Cig/God/whoever you believe in we have got to fix the stadium sound system for 2026. It is abysmal.

He deserves a blank check. His program should be the #1 priority for the athletic department.

Illinois was a ten win team that returned 16 starters. It’s not them. It’s IU. We’re really good. Curt Cignetti was damn embarrassed that we lost at ND in the CFP and he’s got a team to avenge all kinds of things.

Staff getting one of their top targets for the recruiting cycle. Always a good sign when that happens especially an out of state top 30 ish type of recruit

I’m good with where we are rated. I think Texas, who is just in front of us, is overrated but aside from them being in front of us I don’t see much “why in the hell are they ranked that high”. Pleasantly surprised we are above TT as their win at Utah was also quite impressive. The important thing is that we are ranked in “Playoff territory” and everything will play out just fine as long as our future results are positive. Really need to take care of Iowa.

Maryland on the road will be a tricky one—maybe just as tough a matchup as Iowa.
