So there’d be more playoff games for some teams than the NFL playoffs?

Yep. This isn't the NFL where there's only one league of 32 teams. The NFL shouldn't even be a comparison for something like this. The FCS should be the model for comparison.

The FCS normally schedules 11 regular season games. This year they were allowed to schedule 12. It features a 24-team postseason bracket: 10 teams decided via automatic bids issued to conference champions, 14 at-large bids and the top 16 teams are seeded. They started the playoff this past Saturday. The national championship game will be played January 6th, 2025.

The max amount of games a school would be able to qualify for is 16 to 17 depending on the calendar year.

I think it depends on when Thanksgiving falls each year, but FCS teams often play an 11 game schedule.

You are correct. This year they were allowed to schedule 12 but 11 games is the norm.

I want Clemson to win to knock Alabama out of the CFP. The tears of all these SEC shills would be sweet. They're getting very annoying now, like mosquitoes buzzing in my ears.

I do love all the comments thrashing the article and its author.

Man, I get the issue with 1 of the teams being 3,000 miles away combined with the dilution the playoff has created, but, my Lord, that’s a ridiculous deal.

This is where the 12 team playoff causes oversaturation. Nobody really cares about this game. Both teams are in. Both teams know they have at least one, and very likely two more games to attend.

The only other time I remember it remotely close to the above was like the third time in a row Wisconsin made it, they didn’t have a chance at a title and most people figured they’d get killed by Ohio state again. They didn’t travel that year and frankly Ohio state went every year too.

I can almost see the SEC and Big Ten conf championship games getting like this every year where neither of them really matter and the fans don’t care to pay a ton to be there.

The conference championship games should be done away with, but they are such huge money makers that I can’t imagine that ever happening

“If you just win” is a hilarious thing to complain about. South Carolina’s daunting OOC schedule included games against 5-7 Old Dominion (who they beat by 4 points), 4-8 Akron, and 5-7 Wofford. You lost 25% of your games and played another 25% against terrible schools. Stop complaining.

God, I'm so sick of the SEC whining. What a bunch of twats.

I wonder how many of these crybabies have called Scott Dolson about scheduling a home-and-home with us.  I’m betting it’s none.

I wonder if we begin to see players sit out of a meaningless conference championship game to rest up for the playoffs.

That is crazy that Stubhub has BT Conference Championship tickets available for only $12.:With Stubhub fees that’s probably a reasonable $78.

I have a dream.

That dream is for IU to open against a SEC team and beat them.

I’m sick of their “we are by far the greatest” BS when arguably their best team needed 8 overtime’s to beat a mediocre ACC team at home, on senior day.

While that would be sweet, my dream is for IU to come up here and beat Notre Dame in South Bend.

And I say this as someone who has rooted for ND my whole life.

I will paint my body red and white and streak across their campus if that happens.

A chance for hardware in the case, a week to rest while scouting your potential opponents vs no championship trophy and playing a potential road game seems like a no brainer to me. I would assume winning the conference is a goal set during the offseason and pretty high up there on the list. Who knows man, maybe these players see a conference championship as meaningless? Personally, I don't, but that's just me.
