I’d like to see how he’d shape up against some of the more talented teams, obviously played well against Eric Hunter but still. McCutcheon is a 4A school with a high school enrollment of 1,700. It's also a member of the North Central Conference which includes the likes of Lafayette Jefferson, Kokomo, Marion, Muncie Central, Richmond, Indpls. Tech, Anderson and Logansport, so he's not padding his numbers on 1A and 2A schools. GloryDays, Crimson and Cream, HoosierTrav and 3 others 6 Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Did you watch the 4A state final 2 years ago when he went head to head v Langford? Langford scored more points, but Phinisee had 13/6/6 with a body that hadn't come close to developing yet. I have been saying it since then. This (RP) is the kid I wanted most. Would LOVE Langford. But RP is a 4-year program kid. Bobman1, GloryDays, ALASKA HOOSIER and 2 others 5 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Letdown game for McCutcheon and Phinisee last night but still defeated Winamac 58-31. Phinisee led the way with 20 pts; all 1 but in the second half and most coming on driving layups per the newspaper account. He was 8-11 from the field and 4-6 on FT's. http://www.jconline.com/story/sports/high-school/2017/12/16/sluggish-mccutcheon-still-too-much-winamac/957847001/ mamasa, ALASKA HOOSIER, WayneFleekHoosier and 3 others 6 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 McCutheon vs Merrillville newspaper summary MERRILLVILLE — Everything McCutcheon does flows through Robert Phinisee. The Mavericks’ Mr. Basketball candidate, an Indiana commit, had 41 points Friday night, making 17 of 20 from the free throw line, in a 78-59 boys basketball victory against Merrillville. “He’s so controlled. He does such a good job with his body, using it just to change speeds, to change direction, shield the defender,” Merrillville coach T.J. Lux said. “He doesn’t really have a discernible weakness. He shoots the ball really well. He attacks. What you’ve kind of got to like about him is that he knows the spots on the floor that he likes and trying to get him off those spots is the challenge.” Phinisee scored nine quick points in the first quarter and Koby McNeely also hit a pair of 3-pointers from nearly the identical spots on the floor. Both Jaylon Holmes and Johnny Bernard fouled out in the fourth quarter, leaving the Pirates without two starters for about five minutes. The score was 60-54 moments before Bernard was sent to the bench. A series of fouls by Merrillville and free throws by Phinisee opened things back up. “It’s a tough matchup for us without those two guys on the floor. They do a lot for us, obviously,” Lux said. “We hung in there, got a couple buckets and got a couple stops. We just weren’t able to sustain it and you could see the cracks emerge there the last three minutes.” Merrillville (3-2) put on a three-quarter court pressure in the second quarter, with mixed results. The Mavericks turned the ball over twice but also found a pair of easy layups. “Our collective effort, defensively, just wasn’t as good as it’s been earlier in the year,” Lux said. “They had some guys knock down some shots in the first half and I think some of our guys got a little tentative.” The Mavericks (7-2) led 40-35 at the half. Merrillville cut the lead to three points on a 3-pointer by Bernard in the third quarter. A foul by McCutcheon on the same play gave Merrillville the ball back but the Mavericks scored the next six points to regain control. “We found some solutions offensively but, at times, we started to miss on a few things in the second half, some drives to the basket that we just weren’t able to finish,” Lux said. “But for me, it’s always going to start and end on the defensive end, and our collective defense wasn’t right.” Bernard finished with 22 points for the Pirates and Holmes scored 15. Isaac Angstadt had 14 for the Mavericks. McCUTCHEON 78, MERRILLVILLE 59 McCUTCHEON-Robert Phinisee 11 17-20 41, Kobe McNeely 4 0-0 12, Rowen Farrell 2 0-0 5, Ben Miller 1 1-2 3, Keiden Tyson 1 1-2 3, Isaac Angstadt 7 0-0 14. Popular Post Class of '66 Old Fart Posted December 23, 2017 Popular Post Posted December 23, 2017 Couple of additional post-game quotes from the Merrillville coach on Phinisee. "He's so controlled, he does such a good job with his body," Lux said of Phinisee. "He changes speeds, changes directions, he sees the floor extremely well. He doesn't have a discernible weakness — he shoots the ball well, he attacks, he has a pull-up. "He knows what spots on the floor he likes and trying to get him off of those spots is a challenge. He knows how to get there. He knows what he's doing out there." Iugradman, GloryDays, LockdownD and 5 others 8 Quote
