I’ll get fired up and predict IU by 50 when we’re closer to game time, but for now I’m not too optimistic about this one and it’s entirely because of how Cig and Shanahan have treated tough away games back to their JMU days. Playing conservative and vanilla on offense will not work against Dan Lanning. I hope they break their tendency and come out guns blazing.

It’s confusing — it seems so out of character for Cig and Shanahan.  

Hopefully they’ve learned and figure something out for this one so we can be in the game in the second half.  They’re excellent coaches and smart, so I’ve got some hope for some fixes…

I'd expect a lot of pressure from their D-Line and would really like to see Shanahan use a massive tool he has in the box. That would be Hemby in the screen game. Great way to pull the dogs (Ducks in this case) ears back up a bit.

We will need to not get “blitzed” early. If we can hang in there and put some pressure on them, who knows. I think the speed will end up affecting us. So long as we don’t get blown out.

Gotta win in the trenches.  We can hang with them but need to play better than Iowa.  Can’t afford to take Mendoza amount of the game again.

Iowa brought pressure on 72% of our offensive plays. That's insane but Phol Parker knew it was their best chance to contain our offense.

....yeah, I thought the same thing vs. Iowa. I kept thinking that they looked pretty simple at times, especially during both of the those 4th short situations.

UO will utilize what IUFB couldn't do against Iowa so that just means Coach Cig has to figure out a way to audible on the road. Otherwise we'll see a lot of the same we saw in Iowa City.  Not being able to change play calls is a bfd. The front 5 will have their hands full.  

Our front 7 on D will be challenged but I still think they'll create havoc. And having a healthy secondary is key to getting the possible upper hand.

The D will be the reason for a W. Kind of like it was for last week. No one will notice it and that is preferable for me. 

And holy poop our boys are going to be juiced for this game!  I'm looking forward to this one folks.

In basketball I remember Knight getting really conservative trying to neutralize opponent strengths.  Example 1984 elite 8 loss to Virginia.  And then running with UNLV 1987 final 4 win. Opposite strategies with different players involved.

Wondering which strategy will be used vs Oregon?

And advantages for Oregon home crowd noise IU flying west and a great big game with an excellent coach and talent.

And advantages for IU a mysterious coaching strategy that wins sometimes in mysterious ways.

(Cig has often referenced a lot of games come down to a play or two).  Overall, not many IU turnovers and penalties have been impressive for as aggressive usually plays over the last couple years.

Man...would we love to come out with a W at Oregon. That would be arguably the STATEMENT win of the year in college football. We got a chance because  we're that good.  Let the offense loose (less conservative like we saw against OSU and ND) and play sound defense and we got as good a chance as anyone.

Hopefully the lesson they took away from Iowa was that they need to keep Mendoza as involved as possible.

One thing that I've read needs some fixing for this game is our gosh darn dagnabbit silent count.  I guess Iowa figured it out to some extent (we use a hand motion), which was a pretty big problem.

I love this staff, but we've had this issue before, it shouldn't be an issue, and I never want to hear about silent count issues again.

Also, per the presser Cig said they didn't let Fernando audible at Iowa due to crowd noise.  I'm sure he knows best, it's just a little odd to me since Fernando is a very capable QB.

Anyways, I'm not trying to second guess this fantastic coaching staff, I know 0.001% about football compared to them, I just find this stuff surprising.  I'm sure the silent count issues are known and will be fixed going into Autzen.

I don't understand this issue either. Every big time program plays in hostile environments and seem to do just fine calling plays. Cig is too good to allow this to continue to be a problem.

I don't have a problem using the hand motion from the guard spot but timing the snap differently from play to play would help. Coogan snapped it immediately every time and Iowa was getting off the ball way too quickly because of it.
