Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

I’m excited.

We’ve just got to see how he does.  In reality few of us have any ability to assess a coach.  We don’t know who would come to IU, what they are like, what they were working with at their current jobs, and how they would translate to IU.  DDV could be better or worse than Otz, Ben, Beard, whoever.

I’ve got to hope Scott’s judgment is good.  I’m optimistic and looking forward to the portal.

Seems as if those saying it would be an out of left field hire ended up being correct. Devries wasn't on anyone's radar until a day or two ago.

I think that resolves, once and for all, whether Dolson "had his man" back in February. No way we've been on Devries since then. And anyone who's been saying it's Brad the last few weeks obviously needs to reevaluate their sources. (To be clear, that is not intended to dunk on anyone, as always I believe people were reporting what they were hearing...their sources just weren't reliable).

But on the other hand, those who insisted IU couldn't land a sitting P4 coach were wrong as well.

On one hand, yes... on the other, no guarantee Dusty actually wanted to be here either. 

He's leaving after one year at WVU because he wants more commitments? This guy wants to win!

Been a lot of talk about the "want" factor... I love the idea of a guy who turned Drake around, turned WVU around, wants to take his all conference son and some high-level players with him to Bloomington and get to work in the portal. Taking his family and stepping into the "fishbowl" as they say... knowing what it entails

Not that this should influence the decision in any way, but as an added bonus, him being able to get to work now in the portal should be a big positive for next year's roster.

Think we have a lot to look forward to... including 50 year old DeVries battling 49 year old May next year

He’s bringing Javon Small (Indiana) a top 5 PG in the country and his son Tucker. IU has 2 of the best and oldest players in the Big 10 next year

I just hope we as a fan base will give him a chance a put all of our efforts to really support the program.

The worse type of attitude to have, he hasn’t coached one game for us. 

It’s not an exciting hire. He just went .500 in conference with a comparable NIL to Indiana. He was good at Drake. So what? Lots of guys do well at mid majors. Will he be great? Maybe. My hope is Indiana can compete at the level we spend. Nothing says DeVries will make us a top 15 program. No recruiting edge. No real name recognition. Just another hope and a prayer. Glad he has work ethic. He’s going to need it.

DeVries coached in the same conference as both Painter and Underwood. Tell them whatever the **** you want lol

Hard to think of any comebacks until we start winning. Unfortunately looking like we're in for 4 more years of 20-11 type seasons.
