I never missed a Bob Knight IU coached game. Huge fan. But I hope he never breathes the words Bob Knight. Let’s move on, this is his team now!

You might be a goober but you're spot on. Need to stop living in the past.

Connect with the patriarchs and well-ragarded high school coaches in the state. Win them over and you'll have all of the intel you need on the players to recruit in the area. Don't forget that's where your breads buttered and jump on the in-state 2027 group. A lot of talent there.

True. The main tradition to keep is winning. Others are Candy-stripes, William Tell time-out, etc. But absolutely no reason to try to force anything else, especially staff. I want Hulls, Calbert, Korey etc IF they are the best fit for the job. If not? Cut em loose. They will always be Hoosiers, but that doesn't mean they deserve to be on payroll. If non-Indiana guys don't "get it" then they are stupid and shouldn't be on the staff. Get the best/right staff and players to win. We can get picky about details after re-establishing IU as the best program in the Big 18. (Izzo & MSU can suck a big green one.)

Yep. During the early years of RMK, I doubt that he deferred to how things were done during the Branch McCracken years. LOL

Or how Lou Watson did them.

RMK had the utmost respect for older, winning coaches (and his mentors), but he did what he needed to do to win. That's what DDV needs to do. Just win.

Me too and I practice this part often. Going to get more practice this afternoon. If any hasn’t been to Upstairs lately it’s a sports bar dream

Don't stay out too late try not to get caught.

There's a lot to be said about a coach that really wants the job.  I recall Sampson had told people he'd choke the sh*t out the IU job (presumably in a positive way, lol).

If that’s the attitude we need in a coach, maybe Beard was the right choice.

I wouldn't say he  "let it happen"...he benched the startes to send a message!

Pretty much what I meant. He wasn’t coaching in a typical Knight game fashion and was content to let the lesson be learned. In that sense, he indeed let it happen.

Coach Knight is a special case in the history of college basketball. 100 wins at 30 years old. 2 banners at 40 and 3 total by 48. He admired Iba, Newell, Bee, Taylor, and I'm sure learned from them but he was fully formed in his 30s. That's not something that's common and probably unlikely moving forward.

Coach DeVries needs to be himself. You can always grow as a coach and he should be fine.
