I think you’re right and I think it’s wild that people want him gone or blame shooting struggles on Cliff. By all accounts he is incredibly well liked by the players and I don’t buy one bit that someone with a history as a trainer for professional athletes is somehow sabotaging our shooting. It’s asinine. Perpetuated by people who have never been in a college gym or lifted at the rate that a high level athlete does.

bet anything someone responds with “hes a football trainer”. Yeah you don’t get to the NFL without knowing your stuff. He’s not doing NFL workouts with our guys, promise.

He's a football trainer!

(Sorry, I couldn't resist ...)

blaming shooting struggles on a trainer is the ultimate "I have no idea what I'm talking about" stance

Be that as it may, strength coaches can also have a big impact on the overall culture of the program. So for those that thought we needed to clean house, then -- fairly or not -- that would include Cliff.

Sure.. but I'm not being critical of DeVries hiring his own dude. I encourage that.

Anyone else notice JBJ guarding him on one of those shots?

And the trainer is Taylor Wayer, former IU walk-on under Crean. Hope he's in his ear.....

Why would we assume MCollum is a better X's and O's coach that DeVries? From all accounts, DeVries is an excellent X's and O's coach. BTW - I strongly agree, that DeVries is the better fit.

Maybe is or maybe he isn't. But I think DeVries regardless is very good coach. I think Drock also brings other elements that make him a better fit than McCollum. I am 100 percent behind the hire. I was for McCollum before I knew anything about DeVries. I think Dolson made a smart well reasoned decision. For once this feels like a well thought out hire instead of all the stupid ones we made before it.

Some of the comments out there are insane

This confirms Tucker faked injury, DeVries threw games, the inbound plays where bad, offense non-existent, and Colorado wasn’t as goood as Small
So he  threw games and still ended up 19-13, sounds great!  And Tucker DeVries underwent shoulder surgery for a fake injury so his dad could take another job that he was the backup plan for.

They all be drinking cases of this in WV.

Those (unsurprisingly) aren't even consistent. Tucker faked an injury to maintain eligibility when dad took a new job yet DeVries was also throwing games?  Do they really think losing would make him more likely for someone to hire him away? Was DeVries coaching for a new job or was he throwing games? Can't have it both ways.

I haven’t looked at this thread for over 24 hours and I’m sure it has already been discussed. Them WVU fans are fing butthurt.

They think coach DD and Tucker ran as good as grift on WVU as Woody and Buckner did on IU. I went down a wormhole on a Reels comment section showing DD’s announcement presser. If half of what they say is true we got ourselves a slimy coach…and they say IU fans are crazy.

To me, it's a great sign that WVU fans are angry about this. It means they really wanted DeVries to stay, and they're forced to come up with QAnon conspiracy theories to explain why he'd leave. Their pride is obviously hurt -- especially considering the fact that we didn't give him that big of a pay raise from what he was getting at WVU, and apparently they were willing to pay him as much as we are. And he still left, because the resources at IU give him an opportunity to coach at a higher level, and that's something he clearly values and desires.

WVU fans are this year's JMU fans. Bitter over losing a coach who jumped to a better opportunity, and smearing his character in the process. I don't know if you guys recall, but JMU fans spread all sorts of BS about Cignetti when he took the IU job. This is hardly any different.
