Expectations aren't a bad thing. Or we could start hanging banners saying we tried, just put the ones that actually matter in storage so no one makes the mistake if thinking this or a serious program. Fans don't make or break a program either way. Coaching does however and when you run off coaches every 4-5 years you're never going to setup or sustain any kind of success. I like the fact that DeVries ran every one off the roster and cleaned house. A reset was needed. Regardless of what happens this year, putting DeVries on any kind of lifted seat going into year 2 is stupid and why the IU program is in the state that it is. Scotty R and cybergates 2 Quote

And to get into the details, he wasn't competitive in the tournament. Lost to St. Mary's by 29 and Miami by 16. Yet very high approval into Year 3. It took a total implosion in Year 3 (no recruits, ranked around #100) for the fans to go sour on Woody. And the fans were right, he was a terrible coach. go iu bb, cybergates and 94Bulldog 3 Quote

Maybe if you learn from your mistakes it will make you a better person. I remember you emailing Dolson when Miller was coach and posting about it on HSN. Looks like you didn't learn your lesson then. Fans venting a bit of frustration on a message about missing on recruits they wanted and not even having a complete staff isn't toxic. I don't see anyone calling for him to be fired. I don't see anything particularly nasty being said at all. Toxic would be if people were shouting obscenities at him, the staff, and the few players we actually have - I believe none of which are even on campus yet. Nothing like that is happening. Schools like UK win and continue to get great players. Go look at their message boards some time after a loss or anything disappointing happens and compare it to here. Let me know which is more toxic because they get ugly. skhoosier2, Hoosierfan2017 and Deserthoozier 3 Quote

Our fanbase is our biggest asset as a program. Almost all of the money for the program comes from the fans, and we need money to compete in CBB. There was a 2,000 page thread on firing Woody because he was one of the worst coaches in college basketball. Idk, all the great success Davis, Crean, and Archie have had post-IU certainly supports the “our fanbase is the problem” argument. Once they were unburdened by our toxicity the sky was the limit. I’m sure Woody is the next former IU coach destined for post-IU greatness. go iu bb, JustWinBaby, BannerVille and 4 others 5 1 1 Quote

JimmerNoe Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I have received a DM from an esteemed member of our group that it is my duty, and only I have this power, to redirect you fools back to the crisis that is our lack of portal star power. I have it on good authority that Flory’s DG girlfriend is transferring to Auburn Kappa Delta after some big NIL offers. Think this points him directly down south to Auburn to play for the shirtless orange man. thank you for the bat signal, @Certified Sunshine Pumper JPCIVOP 1 Quote
BleedCubbieBlue Posted April 4 Posted April 4 I am rather pessimistic after the never ending clown orgies I have witnessed the last 25 years. That said, How did it turn out when we threw bags of cash at last year’s portal transfers? We need to stop focusing on the money and the rankings and bring the right guys in. We have seen how the right culture can turn a program around. For all we know, coach DDV has targeted a bunch of guys that we haven’t heard of that have the right attitude and can win. Someone posted a list of the awesome players that emerged this year that had terrible rankings in last year’s portal. Let’s give our coach the benefit of the doubt and wait until January before we start the next “coaching search” thread. Scotty R 1 Quote

Anything after that is gravy. I've been pretty consistent on that since January regardless of who IU was going to hire. There's nothing attractive about IU right now outside of money. And with revenue sharing being enacted this next athletic calendar year, a whole bunch of other teams just fell into some money. Huh? Your post history during last offseason was shamelessly, repeatedly pumping Woodson and the roster as having a floor of a 6/7 seed and a likely “top 15 offense”. Your praise for Carlyle/Rice couldn’t have been more effusive. Pretty disingenuous to tell people they shouldn’t be impressed/unimpressed until games start. AH1971 Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Pretty wild (and telling) that the same group of people who continuously complain that IU has a coach hiring problem are the same group of people that can never figure out why "good" coaches don't ever want to come to IU. lillurk and Scotty R 2 Quote

Mike Woodson was entering year 4 with a solid core returning on top of a monster on paper portal class. We aren't anywhere close to there with DeVries. Apples to Oranges bud. Home Jersey 1 Quote
