You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think P5 basketball isn’t a business

A college basketball program is not a typical business or anything like American professional sports (at least in its current state).  The boosters paying the players get no monetary return, they only want wins.  There is no cap on how much a given program can pay the players.  Therefore it is very much in the program’s interest to overpay the best players.  It does not affect the program’s finances, and it gives them the best chance to win.  I really hope that Indiana is in a position to overpay the players that we want.

If I remember correctly he shot it pretty well his sophomore year and last year until he separated his shoulder

He not and has never been a good free throw shooter. It tells all. The Galloway syndrome. Splits on lower volume can be deceptive. He’s not a natural shooter. Some will point to his should injury. Eh, maybe but free throw numbers have never been good. Shooting is shooting. If you can’t hit free throws consistently you won’t hit any shot consistently.

Bailey was The Guy for a well coached team. I thought he was alot like Tyler Wahl of Wisconsin when I watched him. Right now it seems like DD is trying to get a 3 player high school class. Retention and development are big. Last night I looked into how many 6'5"-6'8" wings that can shoot, defend and rebound. Many, many, many that won't break the bank and can give us a deep bench and several with more than 1 year of eligibility.  We might not be great , but we'll complete.

I heard the same about Rice last year and if you just take out the games at the end where he was tired…

Whatever the excuse is he hasn’t made a ton of shots in 3 years with career 43/37/67 splits.

Can Tucker not guard a 3? Asking because it seems the Bailey kid would be a perfect 4 and we definitely need rim protection at the 5.

he took 1.2 3s a game this year. Usage rate is huge though, I'd prefer he split time at the 5...

Judging by his WVU team, Bailey is more Hansberry than Okani.

37% from 3 above average.

Are you discounting the effect an injured shooting shoulder might have on someone?

His percentage went from 40.8 to 20 ... pre and post injury.

Off topic but I just saw a NBA draft projection and four of the top 25 picks (1,7,12,25) consist of the Montverde crew.

Has any high school (I realize it’s not a “typical” HS) ever had 4 first rounders in one class? And to think we thought we had a shot at Queen (12th) and McNeely (25th).

Injured shoulder or they went from cream puffs in Noncon to actual competition? He’s a horrible FT shooter, so when I see that it’s hard to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Whomever mentioned Galloway above is exactly who I thought of when seeing his numbers. I’m sure he’ll hit some 3’s but largely unplayable at the end of games. Which again is fine with me since he’s a backup.

He had great games against St John’s, UCONN and Northwestern before his injury.  He played only 8 after.

Bailey highlights remind me of the big guys for Florida in as much they actually control the ball a lot. They do a lot of dribble penetration mostly in the 3 arc but are always looking to pass or facilitate. Neither Ballo nor Malik could penetrate, pass or shoot effectively. Give me a couple more of Bailey and a big banger 6’8” 25 year old 7th year and combine with old and older point guards with a few freshmen and call it a day.

He’s 35th on 247 so good pickup. Would love to get a top quality guard. Then a couple more guys ranked 25-50

I’m stating the obvious but tourney game after game after game proves the need for a three level dawg guard. For the 10th or so year in a row that’s something we desperately need.

We're talking about his shooting.

he shoots 1.5 FTs a game. You're making up something to cling to.

His SO year at Drake Game 1 through 1/4 of 2025 when he was injured... 47 games worth of data.. (you clearly didn't look up the games he played this season vs P5 competition before his injury)... anyways... 47 games..

eFG% 56.5  3pt FG% 42.9  A/T 2:1+

Your argument is he isn't a good shooter, Rice like even, because of his shooting % on 1.5FTs and his post injury numbers is a pretty terrible argument.
