There absolutely is a fair question about quality of the roster - and will be until we see them on the court.

At the same time, the roster rankings just mean nothing to me after last year's "#1 haul" in the portal ...

IMO next year's team could easily show they're far more talented than this past year's.

And while the computers may rank us at 30-40, the roster people were hyped about last year doesn't look so good now.

247 lists last year's class and this year's class (so far) both having 8 incoming recruits.

  • Outgoing players rankings: 4 four stars, 3 three stars, one no star (Dallas James lol)
  • Incoming player rankings: 7 four stars, one no star (Deuce with multiple years of eligibility)

I am thrilled with the blue collar approach to roster building.

Couldn't care less about making statements to the CBB world right now.

We have to earn it / prove it on the court. Then we can make statements.

All sizzle no steak is more the of a pUKe thing, IMO :farting_smiley:

The 3 outgoing 3-star players looks even worse when you consider that there are 280 (!) 4-star players according to 247.

It also reinforces how bad of a coach Mike Woodson is since 2 of those were 4-star HS recruits and the other was a 4-star transfer the year before. The individual rankings aren't always accurate and should be taken with a grain of salt but that's 3 players on one team. Newton had the injuries but those were from HS and I'm thinking the staff didn't look at it closely enough as part of the evaluation process which is on them.

I look forward to a team that plays greater than the sum of its parts rather than less.

I get sunshine pumping. But if University X put this roster together and we as Indiana fans looked at it from the outside we wouldn’t bat an eye. Doesn’t mean much, but it means something in its own right.

We clearly will need to outperform expectations for most of us to be happy.

It’s only overachieving if you believe the preseason rankings. If you don’t think they are accurate as they don’t have Michigan as good as they were or Louisville, then it’s not overachieving. I see a top 25 type roster. It will come down to coaching.

Really like the Dorn pickup as well. The Florida kid will provide some decent depth.

No.
We will need to perform to the expectations that Devries has a plan, and with players that he believes can and will execute that plan we will be a tourney team.
So done with judging a roster based on star rankings and national media expectations.
I want a proper college basketball lifer that knows what the **** he’s doing a puts a system and culture in place.

I get that. And I’m happy to not have to watch Woody attempt to figure out offense and defense ever again. And get outcoached in 95% of the games.

We will run a fair amount of 5 out stuff. He’s says they will play hard.

I feel like our ceiling is capped but maybe not. Great players hidden all over college basketball. Maybe they will finally flourish at Indiana instead of someplace else.

Gonna be Leo Curtis and Federico and then they call it a day? Like that Greek kid quite a bit. Was hoping the Sorber talk had juice.

Curtis or Federico and then I think the last couple spots might go to some true freshmen. Help with some class balancing.

Gabe Cupps and Jakai Newton were both 3* transfers on 247. How do they have Sam Alexis as a NR/0* transfer? He was more productive than either of them on a better team. lmao

I'm finding that players enter so quickly that often they don't get rated.  On3 seems to be a little better about it.

I would be happy to add Leo Curtis and Federiko. I think that would get us to 12 with 7 seniors?

I'd like to see them get a full 13 (even though a lot of teams only do 12) with a freshman or rising sophomore... for continuity's sake

Two years ago it projected Peyton Sparks to play more than 20 mpg and Malik Reneau to play 18 mpg

Definitely a good data point in the useless column.

Last I looked a week or two ago, it had names for IU that I didn’t even recognize and they were getting minutes.

We turned the page and we will see what it looks like in 7 months.  All we actually know is what we are leaving behind, and for me that’s enough at the moment.
