Really like Conerway and feel vindicated that they know they need a dynamic lead guard. Of course they know that.

Obviously a fair bit of wish casting here but with Conerway and Wilkerson both in town this weekend having a starting backcourt come Monday would be better than average.

Brzovic,  Bailey,  DeVries, Wilkerson and Conerway is interesting. TC can't shoot but might be the best defender at his position in the portal. He's disruptive.

Moore, Enright, Goode and Sisley as a start to the bench is respectable.

A lot of industry people believe it's a soft pivot out of the extra covid year. The juco eligibility change has had alot to do with the reasoning.

IU landed the number 1 center in the portal and payed a bunch and IU missed the tourney
Washington landed the number 2 center in the portal and payed him a bunch of money and Washington missed the tourney.

Oregon landed the 43 rated center in the portal and probably paid some money and he contributed to a winning team that made the tourney.    Transfer rankings are really hard to gauge.  I hope a head coach can sift through the mud and get people that actually  will contribute to a winning team instead of chasing a number
Thank you for bringing a modicum of sanity to this thread.

Highly recommend listening to the latest Podcast on the Brink podcast by Inside the Hall. Goes over Florida and Houston’s portal recruiting and how you don’t need 4 and 5 star players. There was more 0 star players in the national championship game than 4 star players. Need experience and players that have produced at other schools.

Thanks for the heads up, will check it out. I assume they did note that Sampson has 2 McDAA’s coming in this year. You acquire talent from where you can and I’ll be really curious to see if high end but not 1 and done-level kids become sort of undervalued assets. I kind of think that’s where this system may be heading for a minute.

To your point, while i'd love everyone to be a plus-shooter, we're going to need tough guards that can drive and get into the paint to go with our shooters.

Not sure if you've heard but I'm a Celtics fan lol. Nobody shoots more 3's than the Celtics. Their poor shooting nights are typically when the ball is stagnant on the perimeter, step-backs, etc. Their good shooting nights are when Tatum, Brown, Holiday, White and Pritchard are penetrating, collapsing the defense and kicking out.

Even if Conerway isn't a great shooter, we're going to need guys that can collapse the defense, get into the paint and kick out to DeVries, Bailey, hopefully Wilkerson and Goode, etc.

We haven't had that at IU in a long, long time.

and Conerway is a plus plus defender

Definitely needed as well! Would definitely take an aggressive, downhill, good passing guard that is also a plus defender.

assist rate 39%... that plays
