Raby reported that Wilkerson wants to make a visit before he might commit and that can't happen until April 11, at the earliest because we're in an NCAA Dead Period.

Kinda like how it went with rice and Kc last year, we’re pretty confident they were going to commit but wanted to visit

I wonder if there was some strategy to adding these pieces before a rim protector and another PG. Pitch the 5 that they’ll have lots of space with all this shooting, great passers to get them the ball and they can finish.

And then similarly, a lot of space to operate for a PG and a chance to rack up plenty of assists, get to the rim, get open jumpers since there are other good passers.

Crazy to think we may have a HC with a plan!   I’m not sure if it’s the case, but I always come back to trusting Dolson.   I think DDV is solid and will get this going.

I hope Rabby is wrong on this one.  The thought of having to wait a week for him with the caliber of schools interested in him makes me nervous.

On the bright side, they should be able to squeegee all the water out of Assembly Hall by then, so it won't be underwater when he visits.

As a fan it's not ideal but I completely understand why a player would want to visit before committing.

Yep, the bigger question is around the player who doesn’t

Even though he hasn't committed yet, there's a reason Trilly put a prediction in for him. Guy has like a 99% hit rate. I wouldn't worry about it.

Agreed. Only thing that worries me is the dead period and Calapari and others being able to negotiate before he visits.

If that’s the case id assume they’ve agreed to an NIL package but want to wait until the visit to sign

So the soonest a visit can happen is Friday. How does agreeing to an NIL package preclude another school swooping in and offering a sweeter deal? I’m probably just paranoid due to my IU basketball PTSD.

I’m from Fort Wayne, went to IU, and have lived in Birmingham for almost 25 years now. Even with recent basketball success, basketball is still a distant second to football down here. Auburn has a better basketball following than Alabama. (Alabama won’t even sell out a home game during the week when they’re ranked #1!) I think part of that is Auburn has been struggling in football, and that gives them something to talk smack to Bama fans about. Basketball is very popular in our area because our former coach is Bucky McMillan. (Congrats on the A&M job)

Most fans here still equate Indiana with basketball. The notion that the national perception of Indiana basketball doesn’t exist is false. Maybe it’s because dads have taught their sons based on the Knight years. If either Auburn or Alabama struggle for a couple years, their gyms would be empty. That being said, both schools have terrific coaches, and their fans own bragging rights for now. Just my thoughts as a long tormented Hoosier fan in SEC country.

I appreciate you chiming in.

Yeah, Auburn's football woes are certainly a major contributor to the excitement over the basketball program. There's been very little to cheer about with regards to football for quite some time. Basketball has been a nice reprieve.

I equate it to the way Indiana fans embraced the football program during the good years under Tom Allen, and then this past season under Cignetti. I do believe a culture shift is occurring in both programs, but it will take several years of sustained success for it to stick long-term. Auburn is still a football-first school, and it will shift right back to that if the football program ever gets rolling again (which I hope it does, someone other than Alabama and Georgia needs to start winning the SEC).

Don't take it personally @Paye32 but until I see confirmation coming from nationally recognized sources, I'll remain moderately skeptical.  Optimistic but still skeptical.
