I remember we were all a little nuts after McNeeley de-committed.  we were stuck with Woody and we needed players.  Those players came and we will get some new guys this year.    Good news though, Woody is gone and we will get a team again this year.  With our NIL we will be cooking!

It’s been three days in the portal and people are already acting like children.  People need to take a Xanax.  

The only point I was making is that as these players are announcing that they are going into the portal and a list of schools that have shown interest is published, IU has not been listed on any of them. I guess I'm just not used to that. I honestly don't care when we get players signed if they are the right ones. I mean, Woodson was all over every portal announcement, and that got us nowhere, so I agree that I'll need to show some patience....

DDV's first days were spent notifying most of the current team and staff their services were no longer required.  Also no doubt spent time lining up his staff and doing interviews and podcasts.  Patience young grasshopper.  This is only day #4 the portal has been officially open.

I was thinking this just last night. I follow a lot of college folk on X, On3 has been busy with portal stuff the past few days. I kept thinking to myself...IU isn't appearing on any lists yet...should I be worried? Of course not, because last year, it appeared we just  threw $$$ at the top "ranked" portal targets and appeared on nearly every list. 

I'm just excited to watch us play hard nosed D and shoot 17-25 3's a game. Hopefully we make a couple haha

sorry if anyone in here works at the NCAA, but that organization is an absolute joke. 

That is an excellent point. I was concentrating so hard on basketball I didn't stop to think about the football rules. No way they would win a lawsuit.

The ballooning NIL seems unsustainable. Huge salaries of NBA players are repaid in owner revenues. A large portion of NIL comes from donors that receive nothing but some grovelling and good seats for the games. How long will the Gabe Cupps of the world command $1M?

The shiny new toy syndrome will eventually wear off with any team if the donors pump in  huge cash and end up with Mike Woodson type results for any length of time.

Which part? The football part is - they can play any 4 games and still redshirt.

The NCAA doesn't have a great recent track record for winning lawsuits and part of the reason for that is how inconsistent they are in both their rules and enforcement. If they were to get sued in court by Goode, they'd almost certainly lose.

Which NCAA rule gave Cam McCormick 9 years of eligibility? Nothing in their rule book that's for sure.

I misstate things all the time.  Brain is thinking two sentences ahead and my verbal or written comments lag and everything gets mixed.

Donations for NIL are often just rounding errors from investments for the ultra wealthy. It's all just bragging rights and power to them. The money is largely insignificant to large donors. The ultra-wealthy's piece of the pie is growing fairly quickly historically in this country, so I can see NIL increasing steadily correlated to the wealth gap just as easy as it contracting due to losses. This is play money.

Are the rules or the law what is important? I get where you're coming from, but the NCAA seems to have been acting illegally and largely unchallenged for a long, long time.
