My fond memories of Mike Woodson the player are gone.  They have now been overshadowed by Mike Woodson the unqualified coach that used his connections to get the IU coaching job.  Woodson has turned this IU alum and lifelong IU fan indifferent about IU basketball until he's gone and someone new can provide hope. I still care that's why I'm here.  But right now, the only interest I have in this team is getting a new coach and culture.

This is why a legendary player of a team should never be the HC of that team. Coaches are hired to be fired.  This is why I was glad to see that Ryno was never hired to be a Cubs manager.  It would mess with his legacy as a player.   Woody has suffered that fate.

This is how bad decisions get made. The program sucks in its current state, and the fans are so desperate to get away from the epic crapshow that they would be willing to take jumps to places that they would never go if they were allowed to fully contemplate their actions.

When one is in the level of pain (emotional or spiritual) this great, they will grab an anything within reach to alleviate said pain.

Chris Beard is not the answer.

He’s the answer to the losing problem. He’d 100% do very well here. The only question is whether the baggage/bad PR is worth winning again. I’m sick and tired of IU being such a sorry *** program, so it would be for me.

He's always been my number 1 choice, but I just do not believe IU would actually do it, so I've never gotten too excited at the idea of it.

Woodson deserves every boo he’s going to get at the Michigan game. He shouldn’t get the option of the “retirement” cop out. He halfa**ed his entire tenure and then launched a smear campaign against the fan base. Make him finish the season out.

Let the boos rain down on his head.  Mike Woodson is the dark cloud over Bloomington. Rain On Parade GIFs | Tenor

I imagine if someone like Beard ended up at IU, his baggage would be magnified in the press and somehow tied to IU hiring/firing Kelvin Sampson after his (impermissable phone calls violations), which seem harmless now.

I'm too young to remember him as a player so that's never been there for me. Appreciate his contributions to our past history but his coaching history is a dark cloud on his and IU basketball's legacy. Regardless, well said!!!!!!!! I'll follow but refuse to watch and get upset as long as he is the coach. Only interest is if Dolson can get a winner!

They were honestly harmless back then too, we for some reason felt the need to flog ourselves over it. Should've just backed him and taken the slap on the wrist, and gotten back to winning in a year.

  1. Stevens
  2. Beard
  3. McCollum
  4. May

Based on coaching ability only....leaving out drunken wife-beatings...

Interesting.

  • Three of those four have led a team to an NCAA Final Four
  • Two of those have led a mid-major to an NCAA Final Four
  • Three of those four have completed a season as a D1 coach
  • Three of those four have coached in a P5 conference
  • Three of those four have direct recruiting ties in the State of Indiana
  • Three of those coaches have, at some point in their career, been the coach of a ranked D1 team
  •

The outlier for every single one of those criteria is McCollum. Before this year at Drake, his resume far more resembled Greg Tonagel than any other serious candidate. After this year, his resume will still probably be far closer to Tonagel's than to Dusty May's.

Finally, FWIW, McCollum has coached a total of three D1 games against NET top 100 teams and zero games against ranked teams in his career.

The Beard discussion has happened many times on this board, including in this thread, so there's no reason to rehash that.

Well I'm not the one who rehashed it sooooooo
