I see folks bemoaning the “optics” explanation. Let me simplify: IU is 14-6 (5-4). Illinois is 13-6 (5-4).

We all know Illinois is better right now, better coached, and so on. But be honest with yourself that the situation currently doesn’t look the same to a national writer/outsider/casual fan. And those things matter.

I remember beating my head against the wall trying to explain to non-IU fans what an awful experience Archie Miller basketball was. They just didn't get it, but they weren't watching us closely. They didn't see us struggling to score 60 points in most games, a coach who subbed himself out of leads and then made his assistants take questions from the media or a guy taking the ball out of bounds and having no one to inbound it to because the other four guys had all run to the other end.

From a bird's eye view, it's probably harder for the average fan to see what's wrong here. But all of us know because we're experiencing it every day.

He also is one of the people who helped hand-pick Woodson so he's going to defend it

Dolson is going to need massive balls to fire this clown

It will he dolson against the machine. Hiring former players who are not good coaches is a god awful idea.

Yep he said IU has the right coach, just not the right players

With NIL it's very hard to win right away.

And he said at a job like IU you have to have someone who knows what it means to play at IU. Woody knows. Maybe he was pitching for May

Ugh, this is giving me the, see photo below, vibes. While I believe it is great to have the former players in and around the program, they definitely need to stop trying to tell us whippersnappers how the program should be ran like it was back in my day. It don't work like that anymore and all of their coaching/executive records prove that, lol!

Who picked the players?

I thought the same thing!  Woodson took the easy way out for recruiting and threw a bunch of money at higher ranked players, didn’t do his homework on how they fit together and whatever he thinks he is playing

Drinking game in here.   Anytime someone posts King, Ferguson, Cooks, Quinn or Buckner you have to take a shot

I wish I could play, but I have an archery tournament to run tonight and tomorrow....so, for everyone else....King, Ferguson, Cooks, Quinn....and Buckner!!!! You are welcome in advance for those that will now pass out for the rest of the night and not have to worry about IU basketball for a brief, but glorious time...

The funny thing is this program isn't being run like it was back in their day. Infact it isn't even close. Their teams were prepared and aimed at perfection. Discipline was a priority. We have none of that. Toughness was a priority in their day like good teams have today. The offense and defense has changed with the three point line and shot clock times. Everything else to be good is the same. We have none of that. We aren't organized prepared smart or very tough. Probably a coaching and preparation issue

Casual fans may feel that way, however, many rival friends are begging us to keep Woodson.  Many national guys are roasting him in the media.

I completely understand and agree with all of this, however, it sure as heck seems like they (former players and boosters) think it is going in the right direction.

This is simple.  They are either make a change or they don’t.   If they do make a change awesome the program and fans can move forward with some hope that things can be turned around.   If they don’t make a change then you know the program that you knew doesn’t really care and lets you know it will be ok to cut bait until a change is made.   I personally don’t see anyway he is coaching after this year however if he is then my investment meter will be lower then it is this season and I will enjoy the rest of college basketball.
King, Ferguson, Cooks, Quinn and Buckner

that’s 5 shots

That's 10 shots, see my previous post, lol!

So the "right" coach went out and bought the "wrong" players? Incompetence. Guilt by association. Facts are stubborn things!

Deep down they likely don't but it's their boy. They will stick up for him til the bitter end no matter what. And ferguson will keep giving him money til the day he croaks. Ferguson and his unlimited funds are financing this fiasco.
