They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

Was it a quid pro quo with QB?  $10mm for Archie’s buyout, but had to hire Stevens or Woodson?

given this year is a debacle and QB backed Woody with $6mm, I would think/hope this one is 100% on Dolson.  Allegedly Dolson was ready to move on last year, but QB bought him and funded him one more year.
I thought some booster paid for most of Archie's buyout only to get woodson. May as well kept archie and done a real search.

Let’s all dream together! @Chris007 how do you suspect we’ll hear about the firing initially?

You mean retirement? This is IU, they'll let him retire instead of doing the right thing so they don't look like they fired a guy that played here forever ago.

They don't care he never should've been hired and it was doomed to fail.

He's been protected from day one by Quinn Buckner, Ferguson, Simons, Cooks, et al. And Woodson has acted exactly like he's bullet proof from that same first day on the job.

He’s hard to like in the first place but that entitlement right there is what makes me totally despise him and that group!

Who's they?  You think Quinn and that old man gave two chits?  Fife and Matta was Dolson's attempt to make a chit sandwich edible.

Exactly!  That is the only that I felt how this thing hiring a guy with little head coaching experience and zero college experience was go into even come close to working.  But Woodson’s ego got in the way and the edible chit sandwich was not edible anymore.

I actually agree with never been got Scott on this. We shouldn’t just take it as a given that Woodson is gone next year.

IU cares about optics more than anything else. They will care about the optics of firing an alum who made 3 tournaments in 4 years. It shouldn’t matter. Anyone with a pulse can see the issues over the past four years. But the IU administration will care. That’s why I’m so adamant that it’s vital we miss the tournament this year.

What “optics”? You have NW students creating signs for us to keep Woodson. Anyone that follows college basketball at all thinks Woodson is an awful coach. And I don’t see anyone in the media defending him.

Who are the optics police? Honestly, who would even bat an eye at this point if we fired him?

I agree with you. I guess I’m thinking more from his part, with a coach who’s guaranteed to be fired. Question for anyone who may know: if a player signs an NIL deal & a coaching change occurs is the contract amount still valid or would it become negotiable?

Well, no one is signing an NIL deal till they get to campus. So August would be the earliest for this kid. But from what I'm told some deals make it that the player gets paid monthly, some have it that they are paid in a couple of installments.

Their record has given more backing to the "optics" crowd than anything else. Frankly, it's a weak argument in the optics department to avoiding firing him. You have IU fans chanting to fire him, NW fans chanting/making signs. What are the IU fans going to do if Maryland comes in on Sunday and kicks our @$$? Not to mention PU fans are salivating at the idea of bashing the program with Woody at the helm. The negative optics associated with him on the sideline far exceed the optics of picking the right time, especially with the upcoming gauntlet

I think the optics are we are 14-6 overall and 5-4 in the Big Ten. People who don't know our schedule see a winning record and a winning conference record.

They would have $hit canned him by now if they weren’t worried about “optics”!

Or maybe there were never any discussions about firing him mid season. You believe something to be true and then it doesn't happen then you just think it is because the administration changed there minds. Maybe don't believe everything that is said on here and think it is true

Isn’t it more about possibly scaring away the potential new coach if we fire a coach mid season with a winning record overall and in conference, with still 11 regular season games left that they could win many of them.  Also, isn’t the fact that the many coaches and normal fans don’t see all the detailed circumstances involved in this whole mess.

I wasn’t even talking about what was said by some on here. I was talking about what I see with the IU athletic dept and how it is ran. Not how I run my business!
