1 hypothetical tournament appearance in 4 years is greater than 2 appearances in 3 years?

Again, stop. As far as expectations go…you, not me, made the ridiculous assertion that IU was in a better spot under Archie than Woodson.

Do you just enjoy coming here to be a nuisance and argue with people who aren't going to change their minds. If you don't like what they say just don't open this thread

USC just beat Illinois by ten. Either Illinois just had a really off day or they're not really as good as their ranking suggests which makes that game a bit less of a question mark for us to win. Looking at their games so far this season, they do seem inconsistent. Teamodds gives us a 32% chance to beat them at home but I would guess it's closer to 50/50 with how things are shaping up. Either way it feels like a must win to me. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I wasn't aware of that thank you. So an off day for sure but losing to USC really hurts them I feel like. But I still think they've been inconsistent this season so maybe they're a bit one dimensional and rely too heavily on said leading scorer? I'd have to dig into the state of each game to figure it out.

Leading scorer was out Wednesday night as well and they beat Penn St like a drum. USC has competed well with teams like Michigan and Oregon already this season. They have a really good coach and present a lot of problems for teams with their length and athleticism. Not many gimmies this year in the B10 outside Minnesota.

Should I list some of the disaster year 3 records for some of the coaches at other schools that many on here are advocating for?

Yes.

IU hasn’t played a tournament game since 2016 at the time Woodson was hired. Just stop.

As had been pointed out. Miller likely wouldn't made the tournament the year or was cancelled. So, while this is technically true, it also doesn't accurately represent the state of the program at the time Woodson took over.

Woodson inherited a team that had experienced players TJD and Thompson in addition to Galloway and Leal who are still on the team. 3 players who started much of their time on Woodson's teams. If Woodson isn't retained, the next coach won't inherit nearly that much.

Woodson winning with Archie’s players more than Archie did himself accurately portrays the state of the program when Woodson took over. Thanks for clearing that up.

Did I say that? I said it was patently ridiculous to say IU was in a worse place today than it was during Archie’s tenure. You said that, not me.

It absolutely is, if you look at the entirety of the program.   We can hardly get a high school recruit and have to overpay to get portal transfers — because the program stinks right now, regardless of any single season record.  Woodson has made IU look like a clown show.

Frankly, I'm all for just removing the DNFMW thread and renaming this the Mike Woodson thread. Why have 2 echo chambers going when you can have an intellectual coliseum? We already have folks in here that are clearly pro MW so what the hell are we doing?

On a side note, I look forward to potentially being given avatar gold today out of the Franimal

I agree not many gimme's. Kasparas is the guy's name, averages 16/5/5, so if he's in it's a much closer game. I went and looked at Illinois' losses, in all those games he's well above his averages but his teammates production is severely lacking, which goes back to they rely heavily on him, especially when they're against a team who is strong defensively. So I found Illinois' biggest problem. They can't overcome a good defense even with him hard carrying offensively.

The Woodson fans need their safe place to talk about his greatness. Odd that that thread is so quiet...

It just means that it wasn't in as bad of a state as it seemed and that Woodson clears the very low bar of being a better coach than Miller. Glad to help you understand.

I agree, but only because I love the phrase “intellectual coliseum.”

Can we get an invisible fence to keep everyone on their side? Seems we have a stray mutt on this side occasionally.

Oh, they just like to come in here and post then complain when someone goes into that post to rip Woodson.
