I know he has won everywhere he's been but preferably the next coach is also able to reverse the current trends with ND, PU, Butler and ISU all having serious momentum in-state. Sounds like he was in a better position to land Flory than Woodson. Bruce Pearl is a name that every kid in the country knows. I think Bruce Pearl understands the history of Indiana High School basketball and the amount of talent it has produced over the years. I also believe that Bruce Pearl has total belief in the system he runs and the kinds of players that fit and is going to recruit the best fits regardless of geography. Most will not go pro, or have very limited careers. They will need the education to fall back on. By robbing a kid of that education with fake classes and such does make you a bad man. imo. Yes for the record, I would never want that sort of trouble associated with the IU program. Even with that said, I don't think it's enough to brand Roy Williams a bad person. Misguided actions/mistakes, etc. happen, everyone makes them, especially with competitors. There's a spectrum of what you can or can't tolerate. For me, it's pretty simple... the minimum requirement being a HC that has no violent past/active substance abuse issues himself, etc. Then, first priority is ability to coach winning basketball. Second is about holding guys accountable and building a successful culture that can be sustained after him. Third and finally, graduating non-pro players while putting your best players into the NBA AZ Hoosier 1
Hornsby Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 Yes, he is loved by HS and AAU coaches in this state. Also, I would expect for him to have an assistant who knows the state well. Probably someone from southern Indiana who is now on the ND staffPearl should be a no-brainer hire but some are bitter over something from 35 years ago. Man they need to get over it. JF87 Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 My fear is that the big donors that support Woodson will say that it's cheaper to give more to NIL and buy Woodson a better team than to buy out his contract. Then we have to watch another talented but underperforming team again next year.

My list is the following. 1 - Brad ******* Stevens 2 - Dan Hurley 3- Dusty 4 - Shaka Smart 5 - Pearl Dan Hurley? Lol. Lists like this is why a lot of the college basketball world thinks we're crazy. The guy just a natty at a top 5 program and might win another this season. Stevens isn't happening but at one time there at least a possibility given his ties to the state and that he was raised an IU fan. RaceToTheTop, Tom White, thebigweave and 3 others 6

I find it sorta sleazy. You are cool with a potential Pearl hire. That's fine. Some aren't. It's OK to have different opinions.

But this is all work that Dolson should be doing before the end of the season. So he can sit down with Woodson, staff, players, BoT, Whitten and discuss all options. Rabjohns said last night that they better not waste anytime. When the season ends, I sure hope a decision is made somewhat soon. I know if Kentucky gets out of the tournament early, there will be calls to fire Cal. They'd absolutely go for a Bruce Pearl. Chris007, Artie86, thebigweave and 3 others 6
rcbowla Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 I know we're all just posting opinions and thoughts and the potential coach discussion can get our interest going more now than what the rest of the season looks like, but I just don't get the continued Peal discussion. Fun coach to watch. No way in Hell IU hires him, just dead in the water. Probably due to the Trilly and Rabjohns stuff. Otherwise I figured it would never happen either.Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk HoosierHoopster 1

But the $12.5M question is can Woodson coach said "better" team to play better, execute and hit shots? Can Woodson adapt his style to something remotely similar to modern basketball? I'm saying that he cannot. And if he cannot do it, why in the name of everything holy would Indiana keep him? And why would the donors insist on backing a losing proposition? BannerVille 1

Because of: A) $12.5 million reasons B) Quinn Buckner & co. C) Most people that donate, may support Woodson or the support of NIL support to buy a team. I want Woodson gone like most on here, but I keep saying this, Woodson will be back next year.
