Fire Coach Woodson Thread

A direct, uninterrupted quote from Woody's weekly presser:

Question: "You mentioned after the Penn State game that you weren't only upset with the way you played, but with the way you coached. Is there anything you looked at specifically that you could have done differently when you kind of look at the season as a whole right now?"

Answer: "Well, it'd be nice to have Xavier Johnson to help me. You know when I coach every year I've coached when things don't go well I point the finger at me..."

Oof.

He's gotta stop blaming not having Xavier Johnson. He's just gotta.

Translation: I have no idea how to fix it so I'm just going to blame everything and everyone but myself while pretending I blame myself.

Or could be money spread out over several years instead of all at once.

Isn't that how the buyouts are typically structured? And for a "lump sum" payout up front, that's typically a negotiated settlement. (re: Tom Allen)... and of course, if it's paid out over time, it's offset by any future earnings... but doubtful Woodson would get another job... he could always hand a shingle as "The Hump Doctor" :D

Everything is negotiable. So let's see what happens

If Samford makes a run in the tourney, that would help. There are a few mega donors to Bama that might be ready to turn the keys over to Samford coach Bucky McMillan if Oats bolts. Not sure he's quite ready yet, but he's one of the brightest young minds in cbb, and has serious connections in the state. He coached Trendon Watford and Colby Jones of Xavier/NBA in high school, where he won numerous state titles.

we seem to be stuck in Coach Knight's shadow forever...next coach should have 0 attachment to past at IU. Just a winner. A proven one at that. A coach that your players will run through a brick wall for...

I'm showing my age a bit here, but it's 2024. Every angle of every play of every game is video'd and critiqued by thousands of people who claim to have an answer, even though they may not know $hit about basketball.

I'm wondering how the NIL $$$ will be presented if CMW is back another season...

Unless we win out, after every loss, it's going to be the same conversations everywhere. Who/what/when will this get fixed? We live in a world where a lot of people want instant gratification/results. It's time to do it, now. Not wait, now.

Sorry, after reading this, I didn't really provide many answers. My wish list is Beard, then Pearl, then ? I'm not ignorant to what Dusty May has done at FAU, but he has no relevant connection to IU with today's players....they won't care that he's a former manager is what I'm getting at.

He also said today that IU needs to win the final 4 games and a couple in the BTT to have a chance at the NCAA. He really has no clue on how any of this works

That's when players and coaches get frustrated because they sometimes forget about QUAD wins/losses. Just wins and losses alone don't always get you in. We have been bitten so many times this year with bad losses.

With our remaining 4 games of the regular season, there are opportunities to get 3 quad 1 wins and a quad 2. That's 2 home and 2 away. I just don't see that happening.

We may be solely responsible for Holtman losing his job.

There is a very serious possibility that we lose every one of those games.

Woodson's quotes just now in his presser were absolutely pathetic. This one especially:
“It would have been nice to have Xavier Johnson. … Every year I’ve coached, when things don’t go well, I point the finger at me.”

Woodson says he doesn’t blame the players and adds, “but I don’t miss wide open shots. I don’t miss free throws.”
Unreal last I checked Penn state and northwestern had guys out also. I cannot believe we gotta put up with another year of this nonsense

You can tell he is being coached, and you can tell he's not liking it. That's why he has to add but I don't miss wide open shots and those things
Quinn is trying to help him save his job. Man is next year going to be ugly.

Now if he had Newton Iu is a 1 seed.

Sometimes they are structured like that, sometimes not.  But regardless of how they are structured, they can be negotiated to be paid out differently later.
