Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

I tell you what though. If there happens to be some sort of academic issues with this team, we fire Woodson for cause. Zero excuse. I highly doubt any of these players are double majoring in chemical engineering and computer science. It’s all “sports management” and “jazz appreciation studies”. I love jazz and sports but ain’t none of these guys having to put in 80 hours studying.

Reality check folks. I have been on here long enough to realize certain posters live in fantasy land half the time. The time to get dusty may was last season. I am sorry but the odds of getting him now are really poor. Why is his contract buyout low? The reason is he was a risk and michigan wanted to be conservative. Him and michigan also knew if he proves himself a new contract will be offered towards the end of this season and he will stay there. Michigan isn't unc kentucky but it's also a pretty successful basketball school. I love the insiders on this board want to make that clear and their posts are my favorite. That being said here is the other Reality imo. The iu administration are either the dumbest people on earth or brad Steven's said wait another year and I will come to iu! That's it lol

Yes, MI will force Dusty's hand. He'll be approached with an extension and a much higher buyout before the season is over.

IU doesn't offer a chemical engineering degree so you're definitely correct that none of them have that as a major.

Your point stands though, it's very doubtful any of them need to spend too much time on school work. Those that get playing time, at least. There is that one guy who it was known wouldn't get PT when he transferred in from some NC school so maybe he has an actual class load. James, I think?

All I'm saying is that whoever is hired should get more than two years before he has to start looking over his shoulders.

Why?  If they aren't doing their job, why should they be protected for any arbitrary time?

Wouldn't you rather set goals for each year and then be evaluated on the progress toward those goals?  Goals in areas such as HS recruiting, portal recruiting, NIL income, player development (including strength/speed/agility), Offense/defense systems & stats, etc.  If you're hitting those metrics, guess what, the wins and losses will take care of themselves.  If you suck in those areas, then you should hit the road, no matter what year it is.

Washington State went 25-10 with him last year.  That’s better than any Woody coached team.  So I don’t think you can say with proper coaching you can’t win with Rice.

I wouldn't mind trying to keep him when we change coaches...so if DD could not drag him into his drama that would be great haha.

On Armond Hill...it has been said that he has a medical condition. I'm not being flippant at all but I don't think it's necessarily fair to call him lazy for his low-energy and sleepy appearance during games on the sideline. He is, by all accounts, a very nice man. It's probably very fair to say he should not be involved as a key member of a high-major college basketball staff given the medical condition but still, I thought it worth pointing out given the jokes being made at his expense.

Shouldn’t be coaching then and collecting a paycheck

Sooo did the flight leave? We'll probably get a team video soon with Woody and the players getting on the plane, like nothing has changed. Don’t tell Kathy, but if that’s the case, I’ll be right back to my visceral, knee-jerk emotionalism.

I do believe I wrote something to that at the end of my post. I thought it worth pointing out the medical condition as a reason and that its not just boredom or laziness as has been joked about. It's largely irrelevant and he doesn't need me to defend him. I do agree...he should not be involved as a full-time assistant/staff member given the condition. I just thought it was worth mentioning in case some were not aware.

Yea.  If a coach lays out their plan and shows progress fans get it.  Fans were very patient with Crean’s rebuild — it was clear he cleaned house and high school recruiting took time.

Part of the big issue with Woody was in Year 3, which is when the results of what a coach is building should really be apparent, his program literally imploded.  Team was ranked in the 90’s with no high schools recruiting class — insane!

The Woody supporters have given up on him now, but many still love blaming the fans, media, expectations, etc. when the issue has always been that Woody is a terrible coach and the program has been poorly run for a long time.
