But this is not the time to roll the dice on someone who would be learning on the job. The reality is that the IU job isn’t sought after. So you aren’t going to get anyone that thinks they can wait and maybe get a better job soon. That leaves you with first timers or retreads nobody wants. That doesn’t mean it’s Dolson’s fault. It’s just that IU football has had 20 plus years of being a joke of a program. The reality is the next hire just needs to find ways to consistently get to bowl games and get IU set up for better expectations moving forward. taco corp, IU_FanClub, BtownStrength and 6 others 8 1 Quote
JSHoosier Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 Hart or Frye for OC or something like Frye's current job would be one thing. HC though just screams same old IUFB. Hart is at his alma mater so I'm assuming he'd need a promotion or heck of a raise to be interested in coming back to IU. Quote

Popular Post Stuhoo Posted November 29, 2023 Popular Post Posted November 29, 2023 IMO we should not be (nor do I think we are) independently interviewing anyone (such as Hart or Frye) for a top coordinator job. The new coach, whoever that is, needs to pick his top coordinators. Just because someone is ready and an excellent hire for a top coordinator job in a vacuum does not necessarily mean they would be a good match with the head coach. Yeah, there’s just no way Dolson is interviewing OC candidates. If those guys are interviewing with him, it’s for the head job. Demo, thebigweave and iuthruandthru 3 Quote

This is the one time I'm hoping I'm getting bad info. Are you hearing that we don’t want Herman, or he doesn’t want us? Of all the guys listed — he’d be my No. 1 choice. FritzIam4IU 1 Quote

IU_FanClub Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 I am honestly more worried about us investing into the program (last night was a good start) than I am who we hire (unless it's Silverfield) Home Jersey, MemphisHoosier and Hovadipo 3 Quote

Frye technically isn't the OC at Ohio State, Brian Hartline is although he doesn't call the plays either. No clue what Frye makes at Ohio State but I would have figured the chance at play-calling duties with a competitive salary would help jump start his head coaching potency but apparently IU is ready to roll the dice. If it is indeed Candle we probably won't hear anything official until after Toledo plays at noon Saturday. If Chryst it could be in the next 48 hours and he better have assistants already lined up and ready to go for Monday. God knows he needs it. If it's Hart or Frye I'll pretend I care and try and talk myself into it, but realize that my Saturdays are going to be pretty free for the foreseeable future. GoIU8, Demo and Stuhoo 3 Quote

I think I read that Frye makes about a million a year to be the run game coordinator-OC. I don't think we have met with any of these guys in person yet and want to do that today and tomorrow wherever we can and then go from there. Quote

EDIT: Also, thanks to @Demo, I watched some of Candle's interviews and he is very impressive. Seems like a natural, insightful, no-nonsense leader. Chris007 and GoIU8 2 Quote
