Too many IU fans and former players want an omelet, but are deeply offended by the idea of breaking eggs. That's why this sort of thinking is prevalent.

Crean won 2 big ten titles in 4 years lmao. That's not mediocre.

It's not low standards, it's having a lax attitude towards being mediocre. Younger fans are more realistic because we aren't expecting a championship every other year, unlike some, because we weren't around for any of it. Crean was the best coach we could get, and he wasn't good enough to win a championship so he got pushed out. And we've gotten worse with every coach ever since.

UConn's best players are never from Connecticut. Neither is Kentucky's. Or Gonzaga. Chris Beard came 1 minute away from winning a title with guys who have zero connection to Lubbock, Texas. Archie got a bunch of players from here and we see how that worked out. It's asinine to think it's somehow impossible to win unless you recruit players within a 100 mile radius of IU.

Crean missed the postseason once in 6 years. Compared to the GOAT that's not very good. But then again, those with unrealistic expectations, nothing will ever be good enough. People get on here and say they'd love to have a coach like Painter, but he would've 100% been pushed out after that bad 3 year stretch he had 10 years ago, by the same people that pushed Crean out.

Most of Crean's players from the 2016 title team weren't even from this state. That is massively overblown. Especially in today's game.

It sure as hell wasn't young people clamoring for the old days they never experienced. Even looking at Knight's time here, even he wasn't elite every single year like we expected Crean to be.

Not blaming fans as the reason. It's exclusively old fans that have the "oh well, what can ya do" attitude towards the state of things. It's the truth whether you like it or not. Stay mad.

It's just more evidence this program peddles in nostalgia and not interested in being a successful program. Even the old fans think that way, cause they already saw championships and tons of success. If it never happens again, oh well at least they got to experience it. As someone who never actually saw any of it, that royally pisses me off. I only know of IU basketball as being the butt of jokes.

On the plus side, we'll now know what it'll look like if we gave Archie a year 5, or Crean another year. So....yay?

That's the one silver lining of the Woodson hire. Now that the "it's gotta be an IU guy" crowd are seeing in real time what a mistake that is, they'll never say it again.

There's a lot of bad aspects to the Woodson era, and this might be the worst. The audacity to just throw everyone under the bus when they lose but take all the credit when they win is reprehensible.

If it absolutely has to be an IU guy, it should've been Alford though. If he were hired instead of Woodson, he'd be the best coach post-Knight. I still can't believe Woodson got the job in the first place.

Why don't we get a coach who was a proven winner in the Big Ten. Won 2 conference titles, 3 sweet 16's, 4 tournament appearances in 5 years, sent multiple players to the NBA. I think that guy would do very well here.

He was very weird, but it kinda fits with Bloomington. We worried too much about local HS recruiting. The portal has rendered it more or less obsolete. Almost no one recruits in just their backyard anymore. We hated how he constantly churned through players, now that practice is commonplace. If we had just chilled a bit and realized he was actually a good coach, he would still be winning big here in this era.

What's funny is when you see what people describe what they want IU basketball to be, they essentially describe Crean's time here, yet people hated him for it. Fun, entertaining basketball, making tournaments, winning big ten titles. Crean with the portal and NIL would've been fun to watch.

It really is a shame that the portal/NIL era came a few years after we fired him. I think he would've thrived in this environment.
