From an Illini board:

Yes, they can get bitter.

There’s nothing more sad in the Sports World than a team or franchise that had a great level of success and then who slid back into mediocrity (Indiana basketball, Nebraska football, De Paul basketball, etc.). The fans got accustomed to a high level of success and it’s a bitter pill when that success evaporates.

Indiana roundball has not deteriorated to the level that Nebraska football did... but the Indi Memories are strong and we all know the mythology that has been built around Hoosier State basketball.

But when I see anyone pushing that Indiana mythology narrative it’s just a reminder that the same mythology could have been built around State of Illini ball. (Maybe THAT movie will yet be made one day).

There simply is no greater ball traditional than the Prairie State. As They say... “The Original Home of March Madness!”.

This will always be an intense matchup what with the (elite) tradition history of both States and the great Big Ten generation games that have been played over the years.

Indiana and Nebraska share a bit of State inferiority complex. Much of their State identities are built around their State U’s. Nebraska has no major pro teams... and Indiana has not had real great success with the NFL or with the Pacers since the ABA days. And neither State is on top of people's vacation lists.

The best we can do is beat the Hoosiers on the court and respect their ball tradition that they have known. Sort of like professional courtesy.

And one more (important) thing. Never let the current Illini success level slide down ever again.

The colts beat their bears in the super bowl lol

Typed in all CAPS. This may be worse than I thought.

Someone may need to scavenge the streets of Champaign-Urbana for a "sedative."

Idk if scavenge is even the right word. It'd be like in the movies when they call for a cab in NYC. Stick your hand up and someone just chucks a strangely-not-see-through plastic bag at you.

Hey Hova ... I'm hoping this Illini board post will balance you out and calm you down:

Fighter of the Nightman

God, the IU boards are funny. What a bitter, has-been group of people.  I have literally never talked to a soul who has been to the fake Assembly Hall and to State Farm Center and preferred Bloomington ... weird, outdated arena with no good seats and what "character" it has is mostly forced down our throats by old TV announcers who were in their prime when Indiana was actually good. Additionally, the crapping on Champaign as a city is hilarious ... Bloomington is a tiny, boring town with a small stretch of nice campus running through it. Champaign, for good and bad, is an actual metro area with legitimate dining and bar options, both in Campustown, Downtown and even Urbana.

As someone who went to IU and now lives 45 minutes from Champaign... this take is honestly laughable.

1) Champaign has a few good restaurants but it's nothing special

2) The State Farm Center is honestly the worst basketball arena I've ever been inside. My Purdue grad wife agrees.

Now Illinois Assistant Coach and tiny little-man-syndrome loser Chester Frazier proudly tweets out a video of a pre-game cheap shot he took at Eric Gordon, who responded by hitting a 25 foot bank shot to send the game to a double OT IU win:

Chester Frazier’s line that night:  35 minutes, 1 of 4 from the field, 5 points.

Clockwork Orange still posting conspiracy theories over there?   That guy would post some crazy but entertaining stuff

I don't think he's been around for a couple years now. That guy had a pathological hatred for IU basketball. Looking back, I'm pretty sure he was bipolar.

Thinking about the comments they made about Indiana pro sports not having any success and just completely baffled still lol. Almost every single Chicago sports franchise is as dysfunctional as it gets. Bulls sold their soul with Jordan and haven’t been good at all. White Sox are classic underachievers. Cubs unfortunately have not been able to capitalize on the momentum they created at all. Blackhawks were winners but also had rampant sexual assault going on by people in the organization. The Bears are the loudest losers of all time just never ever any good except for the occasional year they go 8-8 and sneak into the playoffs to get their @$$ beat lol

If you get a knock on your door tonight, don't answer.

We're sending Doug Plank, Bob Probert, Charles Oakley, Keith Magnuson, and AJ Pierzinski over to have a talk with you about this post.  Also Nancy Faust (she reportedly carries a shiv at all times).

ps; their will be no former Cubs at your door. Dey all really soft.

This feels like a game where Bates, Galloway, and Gunn may have a larger-than-usual impact on the outcome because of Illinois’s personnel. Can Bates play within himself on offense and stick to the scouting report on defense? Do Galloway and Gunn offer enough offensively that you give them a little more run to mark the big, athletic Illinois wings?
