Our offense is much better this year with a 2nd creator in JHS. Still not great and that improvement will be greatly diminished with X out. Defense doesnt really seem like they have made marked improvements. Kind of disappointing. Loaded Chicken Sandwich 1 Quote

HoosierAloha Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 Villanova isn’t anywhere close to the top 10 this season, and it’s unlikely all 3 of UNC, Duke and Villanovas succession plans work. Let’s put it another way: if you’re the AD and Woody said put a top 10 elite team on the schedule for ‘24-25. If their not “elite”/top 10 when we play them , you’re fired. Who are you scheduling? There’s quite a few teams I get to before Villanova. In fact, I’m taking teams like Gonzaga and Virginia over UNC, most likely. I’m happy to revisit this thread in a couple years and see whose predictions turn out correct. Elite, to me, is recent past up until now not including immediate future. Virginia would be around that elite status. Gonzaga isn’t far behind either. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
HoosierAloha Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 Saw this picture of a Ukranian soldier and it obviously caught my eye. Maybe IU has a secret elite military unit we don't know about? https://c.tenor.com/cl-G8uz5DGcAAAAM/gordon-ramsay-oh-dear.gif HoosierHoopster 1 Quote

Athletes not caring about going to class was far from exclusive to Sampson. I and some of my friends had classes with IU basketball players, and even the ones you’d expect to care would rarely show up. He’s got Houston rolling. #3 in the country. Could’ve been doing it here but IU was too self-righteous. Hoosier987 and JerryYeagley23 2 Quote

Don't know when you were at IU but it had to be after RMK was there because he made sure guys went to class. He kicked off Darryl Thomas way on because he didn't go to class. Let him back on the team after he showed he was serious about going to class. Quote

LamarCheeks Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 The answer to the question posed in the thread -- further away than we'd like. But let's take a minute to celebrate that elite status. Hardwood83 Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 IU had a first-team All-American as a 4th year Senior. A 5 star Freshman was backing him up, along with another 5 star PG that is likely a first round draft pick. Also a 6th yr & 5th year Senior starters. So they had experience and talent this past season.....what were they missing to be 'elite'? Not very athletic on the wing. Not much bench production. Not prolific 3pt shooters (high % but on low volume).....what else? Harder to define elite this year. I don't like to compare them strictly to the teams successful in the NCAA's, since it's pretty obvious this season's Final Four sucks. Much like UNC last season, Miami & UConn are solid teams that caught fire at the right time. SDSU? Nice defensive team that benefited from a wrecked bracket, basically only having to beat Bama and a favorable call against Creighton. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Don't mean to quibble but UCONN is an excellent team that went through a tough conference stretch of 4-5 games. They're deserving of where they are. jonz44 and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

Well, IU did what many of us thought they might do at the start of the season. But, they ended up with the backup point guard, a freshman. Albeit a 5* but that does not count much as one gets to college play. We did not have a great defense. We did not have great wings. We had a weak bench. We did not have great shooters. We had inconsistent play. And we only won 2 out of 3 games with a bad couple of losses. When IU wins or competes favorably in the big ten and goes far into the NCAA Tournament on consecutive years...and the point guard and wings are not freshmen, and the bench is strong down to say 8 players, and we make our free throws, and get the lose balls, and the players try hard most of the time and refuse to lose...then you might say we are elite. In this day and age of semi-pro college basketball...good luck with that. I think we are getting closer and closer with Woody. Hardwood83, ALASKA HOOSIER and Tasmanian Devil 3 Quote

In my opinion, what separates everyone this time of year is great guards. Athletic playmakers. Look at the 4 teams left. All have guys who can score the ball and make plays. Who did we really have that could do that? ALASKA HOOSIER, Dave from Dayton and jonz44 3 Quote
