That's not chasing a paycheck? Because it's at a school in those top 2 conferences that, by general optics, doesn't take it's football program seriously.

If they can do a good job selling those two things I don't see why we can't make a solid hire.  Being one of the only B1G/SEC openings represents an advantage to the degree we've probably never had previously and certainly didn't have the last time we went outside our own building to make a hire.  It's still early in the carousel but currently the only B1G and SEC openings are IU, Miss St, and Texas A&M, and Miss St seems to have their guy and A&M is shopping in an entirely different district.

There seems to be smoke of Day running to Texas A&M which would be hilarious as I am sure OSU is getting heat to dump him.

I’d like facility upgrades, which would probably be mostly funded by donors, but would take getting NIL cash over anything else. If we want talent I’m guessing most of them care more about NIL than the shared weight room.

I just really hate the ‘woe is us, who would want to come here’ attitude. Yeah, we’re not a good football program. We’re not going to go poach a rockstar. But we’re not a charity case either. We have solid things to offer. With NIL, the transfer portal, and conference realignment, it’s a new world in college football. We raised $20 million to fire Tom, which I didn’t think we could do. No reason we can’t go make a solid hire.

Fair question, but even if so those two would be searching in rarified air for their next guy, similar to A&M.  I doubt we would have any candidate overlap with them.

Statement from Dolson. 

Looks like CTA will get $15.5M. Since it seems to have been negotiated down, I would guess that's final -- regardless of future employment? 


BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson announced on Sunday afternoon that head football coach Tom Allen will not return next season. A national search for Allen's successor will begin immediately.

"After continued evaluation of our entire football program, I have determined that we have lost momentum and that a change in leadership is necessary at this time. I want to thank Tom for all of the contributions he has made to IU in his seven years leading our program. His passion, character, and class made a positive impact on our student-athletes. We wish him well in his future endeavors."

The university and Allen have agreed on a financial settlement of two $7.75 million installments that will be paid through the department of athletics donor funds.

In the event that we someday find ourselves facing the possibility of needing to move on from yet another coach that IU has needlessly overpaid to insure against his own failure, let's think back to these scenarios and save ourselves dozens of posts on the idea that we're in some hopeless situation of waiting for a contract to run its course. Money is just an object.

It’s all relative if he had somehow gotten a bowl game this year I think he still would have deserved firing but you can’t justify the 15 million.

It has been my greatest professional honor to serve as Indiana’s head football coach for the past seven years.  Representing this University and this State has meant more to me than you can imagine.  Our entire journey here has been based on a simple concept – Love.  Each.  Other.  It’s what we’ve done, it’s what we’ll always do.  I continue to believe it’s a recipe to change the world.  There have been so many incredible memories made and relationships formed.  I’ll always be grateful for the players, coaches and staff who believed in our vision and gave their heart and soul for this program. 
 
College football has changed dramatically over the past several years.  Some of those changes have been a shock to the conscience of those who support IU football.  The time has come to fully embrace those changes and I pray that IU does just that. 
 
To each and every player who put on the Crimson and Cream over the past 7 seasons, I love you, thank you and God bless.
