He said the program is a joke compared to others in the conference. Practice and preparation is bad. Players know the coaching sucks, some joke about and very few are 100% bought in. Unless Allen is very different behind closed doors than he is on in the public eye, I think it’d be very hard to take Allen seriously as a head coach. FWHoosier84, GoIU8 and go iu bb 3 Quote

Banksyrules Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 definitely time to kick him out. Hell at this point maybe creative student managers would be a better option. Alford Bailey 1 Quote
Hoosier987 Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 I think the players have quit. Allen has driven this program straight into the ground. It’s time to move on. Loaded Chicken Sandwich, GoIU8 and thebigweave 3 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Team has 100% quit on the coaches. Sad to see. I wanted the Tom Allen experience to work, but there is no coming back from the roster quitting on you. thebigweave 1 Quote
kreigh8 Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 $20M is a lot of money, but how does Tom Allen go into a family’s living room and convince their son to play for him knowing he’ll be gone within months? Quote
Hoosier987 Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 I doubt it would ever happen…but the decent thing for Allen to do, would be resign. Loaded Chicken Sandwich, FWHoosier84, 94Bulldog and 2 others 5 Quote

No, it won't happen, but maybe schools need to start putting in some very reasonable minimum metrics in order for these coaches to receive those buyouts! Maybe we need to hold a telethon to raise money, Mellencamp could provide some nice auction items! thebigweave and Hoosier987 2 Quote

Stuhoo Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Here’s some perspective: MSU’s program, which had a horrible even bigger money coach in Mel Tucker, is in a significantly better place than IU. And that’s because Tom Allen is a great guy and will never be dumped for a morals clause violation, and there’s no “team quit on you-no pay” clause in CTA’s contract. Demo 1 Quote
HoosierTrav Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Is there any possibility that IU would get kicked out of the expanding B1G? Football is king and our program has no business being in a power 5 conf. GoIU8, thebigweave and Alford Bailey 3 Quote

Alford Bailey Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Not sure there is another win on the schedule. Maybe Illinois. If this is another conference free fall Dolson has to let Allen go Quote

Wouldn’t be surprised if at some point we are told to get serious about football. Quote

Because Tom Allen is a great guy and will never be dumped for a morals clause violation, and there’s no “team quit on you-no pay” clause in CTA’s contract. Sadly, you are absolutely correct. Couple of other things: 1) All of this talk in Hoosierland about how if CTA was any kind of decent guy he’d resign, and there’s a lot if it, needs to just stop. A guy who’s lived his entire life competitively isn’t gonna bail. Guys like Allen are John Snow standing alone with his sword as a million dudes on horses bear down on them. That’s their wiring. And he sure as hell isn’t gonna give up 20 million bones to do it. That’s insane. None of us would and we can’t bust him for being unwilling to be 1 of 1. 2) If Dolson’s trying to put a package together to resolve this, and I’m sure he is, he’s gonna have to be able tell the sort of people with the jack to make this happen, a) why they should do it for IU’s 2nd sport, one that’s never, ever, been better than average, and 2) how for their investment he can guarantee them an upgrade. This ain’t IUBB, where you knew you could upgrade from Archie. You knew it. And improvement in basketball is a lot faster and easier. Any IUFB HC they hire is gonna have warts. No exceptions. And football, even with the right guy, could take 3 or 4 years to fix. So, if Dolson’s gonna ask me for 7 or 8 figures for my 2nd favorite IU sport and can’t even sell me that things will absolutely improve, I’m not sure I’m writing that check. 3) There are no villains here. Allen’s not a POS and Dolson’s not some oblivious bureaucrat. Everyone understands the deal, but their interests don’t align. This is gonna take a while and it’s probably gonna be a mess. Somebody, somewhere, is gonna have to do something pretty damned impressive to put any kind of clean end to it. But, another 14 months of this? Jesus, you risk making your job toxic. and your fanbase catatonic. Ok, it’s out of my system now. Next DChoosier, Stuhoo, Hovadipo and 4 others 6 1 Quote
