ray Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 I ate a great lunch, then I took a massive dump to make room for dinner. What did I miss? Kidding aside...it's another wonderful day in this precious and fleeting life. Enjoy your day, folks, and have a Happy Friday! Artie86, Home Jersey, Maedhros and 3 others 4 2 Quote
Hornsby Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 I don't want to be in a position of having to hope for Spring every year. Not the strategy you want imo.Bottom line is we are going to have to start winning bigger and making sweet sixeteens to get multiple five stars each year. Look at Howard his recruiting was great at first now he can't get a five star.Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk Quote

Artie86 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 I do believe the Coach Woodson and staff threw everything they had at this recruitment. I also believe they've kept their feelers out for others, if things don't go their way. JMO.... Ngw7183, rayl456 and thebigweave 3 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 The hat trick is immature. I’m sure Boogie is great and all, and he’s obviously young but also immature. clearly he is a slick, skilled, and confident kid. But Let’s get a gritty, mature kid and kick his butt in 2 years since he’s not gonna be one and done. HoosierHoops1, Adillac, thebigweave and 1 other 4 Quote

You don't have to be ready for the league to get drafted in the league. You just have to show that you could be a high level player some day. Quote
Alford Bailey Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Disappointed but at the end of the day the $$ is still there and I’m confident we land a suitable replacement. Not gonna worry to much till next May. CBB is very fluid with the transfer portal. J34, Artie86, HoosierFan1994 and 1 other 4 Quote
Artie86 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Well, these guys are still uncommitted..... They are all in IU's top group still. I know KY is heavy on Ngongba. Derik Queen Patrick Ngongba Travis Perry Dylan Harper OGIUAndy 1 Quote

HoosierFan1994 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 I said yesterday that it would be disappointing to only land Liam in 2024. They need to do everything they can to land Derik Queen. I believe this staff did everything they could for Fland. I'm just wondering about not having a backup option. I am high on Gabe Cupps and Newton if he can stay healthy. It's just upsetting to have thoughts of a Top 5 freshman class and end up with maybe just one player. That being said... 1) I said this over the summer. As much as I wanted all 3 guys, I didn't want a starting lineup of 3-4 freshmen next year. I think two is enough. I no longer think you can win a National Title with one and dones. Next year is the last Covid year. There will still be some 24/25 year olds playing college basketball. 2) I HAVE to think that IU is going to be a prime location for a Point Guard in the transfer portal. Here were some of the top PG's in the portal this spring: Max Abmas, Ryan Nembhard, Ace Baldwin, RayJ Dennis, Kerr Kiirsa. There are going to be some options for this staff this spring. Woodson was capable of landing Xavier Johnson. Remember, X chose IU have the the Champs (Baylor) and Final Four Team (Houston) in 2021. That was before he even coached a game here. He can point to JHS development. A big year from X will only help... 3) I think right now IU has three starters on the roster for next year...Trey at the 2, Liam at the 3, Malik at the 4, maybe 5 spot. Maybe Mackenzie comes back but that is TBD. Point Guard is going to be the #1 option. I like Sparks, but I have no idea if he can be a starting level big man at this level. I do think he can be a solid rotational piece. I also like Gabe Cupps. Add in a healthy Jakai Newton those aren't bad options. Let's see what CJ and Kaleb bring this year. EDIT 4) Last but not least, this program has to win. Period. They won't get too many more 5 star level players if they can't go any further in the NCAA Tournament. Woodson has done an incredible job of not making us a joke anymore. Next step, is to start winning B1G Championships and some deep March runs. Fland was the player I wanted most for this class. This miss flat out sucks because I know how bad this program and the fans wanted him. Rico, BGleas, thebigweave and 2 others 5 Quote

I think Queen is looking for a different style of play whatever the heck that means to him. Ngongba-1%chance. We want Queen. We’ve invested heavily to hopefully get Queen. We have zero momemtum here. He is on an official to Duke right now with Edgecomb (star) and Flagg. Duke’s if they want him. Perry- 5% chance. I doubt it. I would imagine we have a solid shot here if we prioritized him. Maybe our staff has been working behind the scenes. UK was considered the homeschool leader here but Fland changes the equation. Still could be UK if they push. Purdue has interest. I could see Purdue over IU. Doubt it. Harper-0-2% chance. It seems Rutgers. He has a top 5 and Kansas wants him bad. I think Duke is looking at Edgecomb and already have Knuppel.. He has already trolled us. We aren’t a realistic option here. #TransferportalSZN thebigweave and Home Jersey 2 Quote
Popular Post BGleas Posted October 20, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2023 This is not a "sour grapes, we didn't want him anyways" post. I absolutely wanted Fland for both his talent, position and the perception of getting two 5*'s in one week against KU and UK. We need to be stacking high-end talent in these classes, and especially in the backcourt. I wanted us to land Fland. Just making it crystal clear. With all of that said, I am perfectly comfortable with a sophomore Gabe Cupps as our point guard next season. I was hoping to have Fland and Cupps together, but I'm perfectly comfortable with Cupps running the show next year. I'd even argue a sophomore Cupps has more potential to impact winning at the college level next year as a point guard than a freshmen Fland. Now, we need to add more talent in the backcourt. More playmakers, more creators, etc., but I'm good with Cupps pumpfake, cthomas, thebigweave and 6 others 9 Quote

He is going to have a huge impact this year and next year regardless of his role. But if this program wants to win a National Championship, they need to go after a transfer Portal PG next offseason. This year is so important for the future. How big of a jump do Trey and Malik show? Is Mackenzie really a one and done? Can Cupps and Sparks be great additions to bring off the bench? Can CJ and Kaleb contribute? I am hoping the answer is positive for a lot of those. If not, that is where we might be in trouble. Home Jersey 1 Quote
