Looking at this recruitment....I wonder if Cal guaranteed him the starting point guard position and maybe Coach Woodson said, "Son you have a tremendous opportunity to come here and be the starting point guard from day one, but you will have to earn that spot!".... JMO..

Something about this recruitment hurts me a little more than others. I guess because he seemed like such a good fit. I would say well the sun is still going to come up but it's cloudy out. I'm glad Queen isn't deciding for a little bit, this recruitment seems to take the wind out of us. Need a TV timeout to regroup.

I wanted Fland more than Queen; but what sucks is we're already out on the other good guards so we have to hope someone comes available in Spring.

He will be the starting point guard without any doubt. And Kentucky will have a PG/SG duo of Fland/Sheppard for 24-25 likely.

They also have Robert Dillingham who will most likely be back next year, plus Jasper Johnson if he reclassifies, and Boogie.

I always wondered how a recruitment loss like this one would affect the staff. I’m sure they get deflated. Wonder how long it takes them to regroup.

Might be a good thing Hoosier Hysteria is tonight. Something to take their mind off of it so fast. Plus can't dwell on it with the season starting in 9 days

What if Cupps and Newton are very solid? You don't need 1 and done type talent at guard to make a deep run in the tourney. It helps ofc....Galloway gets an extra year if im not mistaken so we will have him as well. That's a potentially pretty good trio of guards right there plus sprinkle in a transfer or two.

Makes me wonder how the process works. Does the Kentucky staff get a phone call and then starts jumping up and down fist pumping and then a member of the staff picks up the phone and calls Trilly and says hey, we got him.. go ahead and broadcast it.

Woodson got IU a seat at the table for sure. But the fact is this table is brutal so we all need strapped in. We need for IU to have a successful season this year and if Ware and Mackenzie become lottery picks. We get a better seat at the table. I feel we are close to becoming a power house again but not there just yet.

I'm not sure we can count on Newton for a while. Dude has been hurt for like a year and a half. He's going to redshirt this year. I'm not believing anything with him till he steps on the court.

I would say it works something like that. I'm guessing the staff starts pumping out to all of their people we got him in text immediately and it spread like wildfire. I'm guessing the IU staff didn't get a call till it was already known if they got one at all.

They virtually whiffed on all the '23s.  They Put together a very good portal class and we enter the season anywhere from preaseason 30-40.

We ultimately need growth out of our existing players the most, but if we want to be viewed as a powerhouse (and we should) we have to win the offseasons too.  Gotta be a perennial top 25 team at worst if we are gonna act like a blueblood.

24 had so much promise with Bidunga, Harper, Mustaf, Fland, Newell,  Betsey, Swartz, etc.  I mostly wanted Bidunga.  I really like Queen, but I don't think we get Queen.    But if we do, that's still a major coup.  McNeeley was number 2 on my list behind Bidunga but McNeeley is a huge get.

I only really want 3 freshman anyway because starting 4 or 5 freshman doesn't win championships these days.

So now we have to see how good Gunn, Cupp, Banks and company play and aim for a huge PortalSzn.

I love Cupps. Think he’s going to take longer to come along but the payoff will be huge. As far as Newton? I hate to say it, bc I was so excited about him. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he originally require microfracture surgery? If so, I’m afraid his ceiling will have been drastically reduced. The knee seems to be problematic ever since his initial injury. I hope I’m wrong and really want the world for the young man. I just don’t think we can realistically expect him to breakout at this point.

If that’s true, it doesn’t really seem fair for the kid who only gets to experience the big surprise once in his lifetime. Seems to really defeat the purpose of keeping things close to the vest unless they actually don’t even care.  But then why hold a press conference, and not just release it to social media. Seems kind of strange.

Thanks to IUBB staff and Transfer Portal losing on a great player like this stings less for a common fan like myself. Look at the talent they've accumulated while playing with one arm behind their back for the last 2 years + with relationships being non-existent when they first came in. I'm sure Boogie will be great in CBB and hopefully for that young man he will go onto the NBA and make himself and his family generational wealth. Indiana will be fine, wait until the Spring - we have several highly talented players tentatively coming back for next year and a heck of a recruit in Mcneeley coming in. Being in the top 3 for such a high-profile player spells good things for future Indiana recruits as the staff is obviously selling a good pitch to be at Indiana. We also discount the prowess nationally of Cupps in some circles, as a sophomore who knows what he is or is not capable of, but I do remember being ecstatic when he committed. Cupps, Banks, Galloway (?), Reneau (?), Gunn, Mcneeley, Newton, Sparks - That's more talent than every single Archie IU team + Woodson/Staff can flat out coach basketball.

What makes this hurt for me was seeing so many guys who I know have some sort of connection to the program saying it was a done deal days ago and mentally preparing for it to be reality. I don't blame those who tip off with information they receive, nor do I challenge that they're blowing smoke for internet attention, teenagers are teenagers, and a ton of $/benefits get thrown their way meaning there is no way to know for a guarantee until they commit.

The last thing is remember that Woodson said that he wanted to get old and stay old several years back. Of course you need one and done players but I agree with him that you need some 22-23yr old players playing significant minutes to compete at the highest levels. This could be a blessing in disguise, all about the framework of your mind. Hope everyone has a GREAT Friday and for those of you attending HH I hope you have a great time! Best wishes, GO HOOSIERS

I think that's why you see more of the Tipton edits on social media and not as many press conferences anymore.

Yeah it's tough to know that we brought in so many guys for visits for the 24 class and we might just walk away with Liam. If I remember correctly we had more 4 and 5-star visits than ever before. That's rough

I’ll say this to about Cal. He is in desperation mode so who knows what he sold Boogie on in this recruitment.

Agree his seat is getting warmer. This year is sort-of make or break for him from the outside POV.
