I would think if this is Dolson's call, he is going to insist CDD find a way to work thru this.  I guess CDD could always look to another job if this isn't what he wants but I feel this is absolutely necessary given today's landscape in college sports.

I am of the opinion that that DeVries isn't the arrogant @$$ that the last guy was. So, there's that.

For sure.  I don't have any reason to think CDD doesn't want to succeed here.  I think if Dolson feels this is a necessary action to move the program forward, I would venture to guess CDD is on board with it.  I just think maybe he wasn't prepared for how big the job is here...how much pressure, maybe the landscape of the B1G, or even that it wouldnt be easier to recruit to IU.  All guesses.  Hopefully Carr is the answer, and the ship gets turned around.

This hire isn't a surprise. There's been talk of hiring someone to this position since CDD was hired. I think he even talked about creating a GM position.

Wasn't there rumors of doing the GM thing in Woodson's last year?  I would think that they wanted to get the staff in place and look for the right guy which is why it took 10 months to get one.

Maybe this isn't a hire for "talent evaluation" as much as it is to help seal the deal on those players DD wants and couldn't land last off season?

Yeah, this wasn’t just any run of the mill GM candidate for overseeing acquisition and scouting. 
Carr, as he tells us in the presser, comes in pretty darn qualified and super well-connected. There will be a transition to evaluating non-elite college talent but his NBA/agent connections are an actual benefit to kids—unlike Woodys. 
While his history managing salary cap and scouting talent, assigning value to said talent will benefit DDv and the program.

If you watch the Carr press conference, he explains that he and Devries have been talking for months and feel completely aligned on the future of the program.  Carr comes across as a complete professional who should provide a huge competitive advantage in roster building and recruiting overall.  Hard to imagine a better person to completely rebuild the roster a month from now.  Really hope it translates to wins on the court and finally gets us back to national relevance!

That's the best case scenario. The worst case scenario is "That guy Carr didn't help much at all!" lol

Or, he was hired too late to have an impact on '26/'27 roster. LOL

The Reed Bailey signing is the most interesting one to nit-pick. DDv definitely wanted to pair him with a prototypical 5, but wasn’t able to close on any he felt would be helpful. 
After striking out on some top guys early he gives Bailey a reported 1.5M.
Kid was pretty highly ranked in the portal, but how much he got and the role he’s being asked to play in this conference just hasn’t worked. 
 

Hopefully this would have gone differently had Carr been on board. We’ll never know

I think a “how is Carr doing so far” thread is overdue.

Hearing Carr say the same principle applies in the portal as free agency where you have to overpay to land talent, and saying the program has relied way too much on the portal the past two years, and that it will take a few years to get things where they want it, make me think we're unlikely to add more than 5 players in the offseason. 7 max IMO, which is still a lot, but seems unlikely given the above IMO.

This is concerning to me.  #ballingonabudget.  See how it worked out for Marquette. We are going to need strong contributors off the bat to compete.  And it will be hard keep guys that don’t play.  I guess we will see
