KzooHoosier82 Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 This kid seems wildly underrated…6’8, athletic, and can shoot the lights out. Haven’t seen enough tape to assess ball handling and passing but what am I missing? pumpfake 1 Quote

He can handle the ball well, and seems to dish effectively However, from what I watched he’s pretty weak on the defensive end and a very low motor…he’s gonna need to change that and as you pointed out, work on strength and explosiveness. Smaller guards were scoring over and around him in the paint with little to no resistance…that said, this is based on an incredibly small sample size. . Stuhoo 1 Quote

Popular Post pumpfake Posted July 23, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 23, 2021 Seems like a solid, if not hidden gem level, pickup. I have to say that I occasionally look at a couple of rival B10 basketball free boards (pu & ill) and neither has even a fraction of the information on recruiting as we get here and hsn - I think I usually find out more about their recruits here than I do on their boards. MikeRoberts Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 Is this a kid that fills an immediate need, will play right away or is he more of a project that will contribute down the road? Quote

I’m thinking he’s a Cliff Marshall project. He’s got skill and length to play right away. If he develops a hot motor he’s not a project. If he doesn’t? He’ll be Jerome Hunter. lillurk 1 Quote
lillurk Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 IU developing fruitful connections in the mid-south would be very good. Both Coach Rosemond and CMW have Atlanta connections, so it’s no shock. But the Atlanta area has been full of talent for years, Tennessee has its share, and plenty of guys in the region are not heavy CBB partisans. Duke, UNC & UK have clout there, but they have clout everywhere, and the many nearby P5 schools (UGA, GT, Vanderbilt, Auburn, South Carolina, Clemson) are not terribly formidable recruiting competitors. Alabama, Tennessee, Florida State, and Florida have varying levels of recruiting success, but basketball will never be top dog in those spots. Quote

Takent-wise, I think he’s got a decent chance to get minutes early. He’s a really skilled kid with the ball. He can shoot off the dribble. He can play in the mid-range. He.can get to the rim and finish with either hand. He sees plays and he’s a better facilitator than most 6’8” kids. Good rebounder, both in and out of area. But, there were 2 issues in the 3 games I was able to find of his. 1) He’s a plus kid with the ball. But, he doesn’t really know how to play without it. He doesn’t know how to use or time up screens. He doesn’t work real hard to get positional advantages. He’ll just take whatever the defender gives, so he gets worked off the block pretty easily and will put himself in some tough spots. Mostly just developmental stuff, but he needs work. 2) This would be the thing. Even by the standards of HS kids, his defensive effort and intensity are completely tied to his offense. Watched a game in which he dropped 35 and his energy and engagement on defense were fantastic. He was playing the point in their trap and with his length he was just a menace. But I also watched a game when he wasn’t making shots and his frustration was palpable and bled over into his effort. That doesn’t make him rare at all. Hopefully just some immaturity. He was an 11th grader. But it would never play in college. But, make no mistake, he has a very high ceiling. Class of '66 Old Fart, HoosierHoopster, sweetpain and 8 others 11 Quote

Southside Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Welcome aboard Kaleb!! Seems like a high ceiling guy with great ball skills for his size. Should be a good scheme fit as a 3. D and motor may need work, but assuming Rosemond and the staff know him well enough, so I can't see it being an issue. I'd like to see one more guy for 22, and hopefully a top 20 kind of prospect.
