Our fan base is no different than any other. Yes we have a small group that are delusional and think Stevens will leave the Celtics front office to coach our train wreck but 95% plus know it’s not happening. You have that with every large program.

But top-20 is a REALLY high bar. May’s results so far have been great no doubt, but I think sustained excellence is required when you’re talking at that level.

Among the top 20 coaches with winning percentage, active, Id take May over Calipari, Pitino, Dixon, Matta, and Kelsey. Easily. 
 

May has a top 25 offense last 3 years. Recruited a McDs AA this year, got transfer haul, and has a protected seed with many new pieces. And he’s only 48. What am I missing?

Yeah I agree. He’s the best of the future and if he resigns with Michigan and IU doesn’t get Stevens, how will we all feel?

Whether it's Brad or not. We're still weeks away from learning who the next coach is. We also must remember we haven't had a unique search like this since Kelvin Sampson was dismissed. We're in a unique situation and must consider this is not typical. 

And if it’s not Brad (which is most likely IMO) we’re looking at another week or a couple weeks (maybe few weeks) AFTER we lose in the BTT because our new coach will most likely be coaching in the NCAA tournament.

I'd say expectation for the next coach should be ranked in the top 25 most every year and competing for the conference title more often than not. Wouldn't say top 3, top 4, etc. Too many variables to be that prescriptive IMO. 

Understand there will be good years - where you win the conference and make a run in March - and other years where you're building or "down" and maybe bounce early in March or underachieve in B10 play. With as big of an NIL budget as IU provides, etc. fans should expect to see results quickly from the next coach IMO. Year 1 or year 2 need to be good as in competing for the B10 title and ideally a second weekend in March... then you give yourself a shot. If you see obvious red flags by year 3 that aren't getting fixed, cut bait.

There are only 8 active coaches who’ve been to more than one final 4. Can’t quite find the same for elite 8 and I’m not going to manually count them. Only 15 more active coaches have even been to on F4. 

Of those 23, about half can be immediately eliminated because they’re retiring (Larranaga), not leaving (Izzo), likely unattainable (Hurley), or we simply wouldn’t be anywhere near excited about them (Frank Martin, among others).

You just described almost guaranteed what Cronin would do at IU.

By the way; his post-game presser in Bloomington was excellent. Curmudgeon who is kinda funny, super honest, and not afraid of anyone or anything.

I have no idea, I have no idea, and I am bummer Cronin is even being talked about. 

30 years with 1-2 championship level teams, 1 team made it past the sw16, what are we doing?

I think there are other good candidates, and of course we have >1000 pages discussing how we feel about them.

Broadly, if we win, most folks will be supportive, though of course there are matters of conscience that would complicate a candidate or two, and there are candidates closer to the end of their career that worry me.

Not so much that they can’t win at that stage; 10 years of McDermott would probably be great, for example. But coaching requires both belief in what you’re doing AND a willingness to learn and adapt; it’s hard work, and when you’re nearing the end of a long, lucrative career, it’s easy to imagine the grind wears you down, or you’re less willing to learn.

IMO Dolson cannot take a risk of Archie 2.0, and if we get to tier 3, Cronin is a safe bet. I just don’t think many of the safe/sure bets are realistic. Beard isn’t getting considered. My personal favorite McCasland probably isn’t leaving Texas. Of the realistic close to sure things, I think it’s McDermott. All of this assuming Dusty wouldn’t leave UM of course. 
 

Or it’s still Stevens and we are gonna be begging an apology from that new guy lol

I’m leaning heavily towards #1 strictly because of how strangely and quickly Goodman’s very vague statement shut things down. 

I'll preface this by saying the chances of Brad Stevens being our next coach are extremely low in my opinion.  It's just pretty hard for me to believe, but the timing of everything is interesting. If you take what we heard here at face value: He supposedly verbally agrees if we meet his demands, we meet the demands and almost as soon as he supposedly gets the updated contract, the statement that he is not a candidate comes out.  

Between the timing and wording of the statement, if you squint enough, you can convince yourself something is going on.  Either way, it's been an entertaining and wild week of #BradWatching.  

Just hoping in the end, we end up with somebody we can all rally around and we start winning some basketball games.
