Zach Osterman lists mid major coaching options:

Ben McCollum, Bucky McMillan, Jerrod Calhoun, Niko Medved, Ryan Odom,  Alan Huss.

Anybody think the next coach is one of these names?

Where did he list this?

Think the chances of that are better than pretty good.

Man....we are starting to talk about people I couldn't pick out of a lineup. Are we going to discuss active high school coaches tomorrow? The discussion around this search has gotten desperate and sad.

I hear you but this was always the most likely scenario for the search IMO.

IU's best option is likely a young up and comer, even if they're relatively unproven in P5 yet.

Just where the program is at right now.

I always thought IU could spend their way out of it, and a top-tier coach would come. I guess maybe not....maybe we've just exhausted the conversation, and we'll get good news in the end?....I hope.

I really like McCollum, but does he really like us? If it’s between Iowa and Indiana does he love his state that much to stay home? Would likely be 4th in line there for NIL and rev share (football, wrestling, women’s basketball).

If we’re worried about his connection to agents and the NIL space a possible solution could be to get a good GM in place.

Well…we could’ve had May last year and I was certain this year before he signed extension. Of course we decided to keep Woodson. Sigh…

Osterman is Dolson's guy.  If he's listing those names you know the search has been a huge bust.
If true it means guys like leary were wrong and this isn't the super attractive job he said it was.

As I’ve said from the beginning, IU could spend its way out of it but it takes a top tier talent recruiter as well. I’ve pointed to Alabama hiring Saban. Go read about it if you want to see how to land a white whale. Or UNC finally getting Roy.

You can’t just do it with a checkbook. It’s a prerequisite but not enough by itself. We’ll see what Dolson is made of soon enough.

The search is not a bust for hiring in the up and comer tier.

Of those six, I'd consider Medved and Odom likely busts. Odom is almost definitely not coming. Doubt Medved does either.

Calhoun turned Youngstown State around pretty well and looks good at Utah State.

McMillan and McCollum are well-regarded in basketball circles and are young coaches.

Huss has been a big time winner at High Point in his two years there and would benefit from his local ties IMO.

Lot to like on that list. Hardly makes the search a bust to choose from that group.

I am hearing a lot of McCollum buzz. Started last night and continued on through out the day.

Internal Buzz?  I am becoming a fan. That article on the McCollum thread about other coaches coming to him because he is an offensive savant was fascinating. He gets blasted because people fear his offense but McAsland at TT met with him twice and ended up completely copying Ben’s offense ideas.

Yeah I’ve listened to Todd on Coyle’s show and I don’t think he is realistic about the IU job opening.

Comments like this is why I hate the rumors posted on here that never have been verified. The only place I have seen Stevens as a legitimate candidate are on our message boards. Every national college basketball analysts I have seen just laugh at the notion of Stevens leaving the Celtics for the IU job.
