General Coach Candidate News

I guess I'll take the guy who has won a national championship and hasnt been able to win a 2nd one versus the guy who has no elite season to replicate.

I'm not advocating Cronin over Drew, would take either in a heartbeat. I think it's wild that one person can be so dismissive of one coach over the other despite having almost identical pros and cons with nearly identical records.

I hope so, but I'm not sure this is consistent with how Goodman has been talking about the job the past couple weeks. I don't thinking he'd be pushing a guy like TJ Otzelberger if he knew Brad was already in the bag.

I also think the tweet would likely have been worded differently in that case, without the not a candidate bit.

Doesn't mean it's not Brad, just that I'm not convinced Goodman is in on the ruse.

Not saying he’s in on the ruse, but if he is, pushing other names out there would certainly be part of it.  The other names serve as a distraction from Stevens, and also may help some of the names he pushes get a pay raise from their current schools.  It’s a win for everyone.

He was having an exceptional season the year before that where his team was projected to be a 1 seed and one of the favorites going into that cancelled tourney

they year after he won a title he was a 1 seed as well

Projected 1 seed

1 seed

1seed

3 seed

3 seed

bubble

those are his last 6 seasons.   Saying he had 1 good year and hasn’t duplicated that season wouldn’t be right in my opinion.  If you want to argue he underachieves in the tourney with what seeds his teams earn then I can see that argument.

if IU is to pull a sitting coach from a high major team it will be considered a home run in the industry especially if its from the B1G and SEC.  Fans are going to fan and some will like they hire and some won’t.

Wouldn’t anyone take this??

Records and stats aside then, Cronin kind of annoys me and Drew doesn't when it comes to listening to them talk. I'd rather have Drew...

Archie’s as clean an example as we’ll  ever see of a guy just being too small for a job. From that 1st presser where he looked completely spooked to the Indiana State debacle where he had no answers at all. He was dead man walking. The rest was just shouting.

Ran an errand at halftime of ISU and thought: we’re stuck with this shmuck for years. Game 1!

UCLA's 2008-2009 team is their last really good one

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Cronin.

Harrick and Howland had little trouble building contenders there. Cronin is close to Lavin and Alford than those two.

I don’t hate Cronin but he really hasn’t built the rosters that Drew has.

this post will be met with skepticism, which is understandable. but it won't be Stevens. 100% confident on that. Dolson's current list is 3, he doesn't have his "man", but any of those 3 would be really strong hires. has plans D and E as well, names we've all heard but hope it doesn't get to them. Nothing announced until late march at the earliest. deep talks with 1 candidate in particular, a name i think would be just about universally liked, but nothing signed and won't be until his team is done

I like hearing Stevens and McCollum this morning.  I would be happy with either, but CRAZY thought, how about Stevens as the GM and McCollum as the head coach or vice versa.

Honestly though, McCollum seems more plausible based on what I have read on here (personal opinion), and while I would be on board with that, my recent poll suggests it would divide the fan base. But I'm still on the Stevens train until it crashes and burns or arrives at the station safely.

Interesting... Who's he had deep talks with?
