General Coach Candidate News

It’s all probably meaningless but the one thing I don’t logically understand is forcing Woodson to retire when we still may have had a chance at making the tournament. I really don’t think you do that unless you have your guy lined up, and if your guy is locked up he probably isn’t coaching at the moment. I’m sure there are trivial reasons, such as not fans not booing, but still doesn’t make much sense to me. And then obviously our insiders shared what they were hearing which made us all feel optimistic, but for me it was their comments coupled with the logic of the overall timing that made the possibility of Stevens plausible, and it’s why I haven’t fully given up even if that makes me crazy.

Excited to see what this week brings, but firmly comfortable with Stevens and May, of course, as options 1 and 2.

Doubt Drew, Few, TJ, Wright, Oats, Lloyd, or Pearl are in play. Beard isn’t happening.

McDermott and McClasland are both extremely intriguing and would probably be my next calls.

I probably differ from other posters but I would likely put Collins in right here.

Cronin I guess would be solid but I would almost personally take a stab at McCollum and Byington last, leaning slightly toward Byington.

And of course, the one thing we can all agree on here is that Brownell would be a lazy and sad hire.

Of course, the reasons that Woodson being forced to retire with 8 games to go could be simply because Mike Woodson sucks as a coach, is lazy, is arrogant, thinks he’s doing his job, should never have been hired and absolutely should have been cut loose last year. He’s been absolutely horrible as both a coach and a leader.

Last time I was told to sit back and relax, I ended up in a bath tub full of ice in Tijuana with one kidney. Hope this time it’s a better outcome.

....That sounds like you're reading the unedited script for "Hangover"! lol

Back state side. Andddddd there’s chaos. Fellas we are getting Brad. Goodmans comment is nothing. Sit back and relax.

Brooooo I'm supposed to be going to bed. You're killing me.

But if I have to be the sacrifice to make Brad a reality then so be it. For the Glory of Old IU!

I tend to agree with you here. While there’s no doubt QB and others exert and have exerted considerable influence over the hiring at IU—

Ultimately, good or bad, Dolson is in charge and the results fall squarely on his shoulders. That’s why this hire is make or break for Scott’s job.

QB is never going to come out and say “Scott is not the reason we hired or gave Woody a fourth year, give him some grace on this hire.” because it isn’t QBs job to hire and fire. He isn’t Woodys boss. Dolson is. I like Scott— he’s a smart guy and he knows that the last four years, particularly if it also costs us Dusty, are going to be laid at his feet (not Quinn’s, not Ferguson, not anyone else) if this hire is a failure. That’s just the reality in corporate America.

I have faith he’s gonna get it right, but acting like Mike Woodson’s boss is completely blameless for Mike Woodson is not something I’m willing to do. Also the “retirement” letter was an absolute farce and an embarrassment to the school, another thing Dolson was ultimately responsible for. He’s getting way too much of a pass here IMO.

Yes, hiring coaches is the job of the AD. But there are so many moving parts here that clearly point to Buckner and Ferguson's interference.

Dolson absolutely could have fired Woodson last year, and according to reports, he wanted to do it. But WQB inserted his influence and forced the issue.

The chain of command is coaches (Woodson) report to the AD (Dolson), the AD reports to the president (Pam Whitten) and she answers to the Board of Trustees. Buckner is the chair of the BoT, so he's ultimately sitting at the top of the food chain. Buckner and Woodson are buddies. Former BoT member Steve Ferguson is also in the King's entourage.

So, Dolson could have fired Woodson after last year... and how does this play out?

  • Buckner leans on Whitten to fire Dolson.
  • Buckner and Ferguson lean on their donor buddies and the NIL dries up.
  • Buckner and the BoT refuses to approve/fund the replacement coach's salary.

Just because it's not Buckner's job to hire/fire coaches doesn't mean that he doesn't exert influence in this area. This information has been widely reported around here since this point last season. It's hard to fight the nepotism, corruption, interference and malfeasance from the BoT.

Isnt there a thread for this?

I can’t help but really enjoy following these Brad predictions.  I don’t think we get him, but seeing if these predictions come true is pretty interesting.

In would love for the people who cover IU to get a whiff of these rumors.  They wouldn’t write about it, but I’d like them to just hear it.
