So in the goal of post count, feel free to ignore this. 1) I turn 60 on April 1. So for those of you wanting a coach for the next 20 years, great. I want a coach for pretty much now. 2) Having said that, I haven’t see a lot of coaches mentioned here who I would be super disappointed in. Maybe Brownell? But I just don’t think IU needs to get that far down on the list. 3) For coaches who think IU is a fishbowl and IU fans expect too much, pound sand. I want a coach who thinks they are the best and doesn’t care about too high of expectations. 4) Eddie Van Halen is a top 5 guitarist. All the haters who think he’s not, there are not 5 other guitarists who, when you hear them play, you know who it is. Well, to me there aren’t 5. Which is my criteria. 5) The NCAA tournament is the greatest sporting event. Period. It absolutely sucks when IU isn’t in it. So pound the **** out of OSU, and, as the youngsters say, LFG. So the time for a great hire is Right Now? Papacap 1

Enjoy that concert, Pap. Agree with all of this except #4. Eddie is a top 3 guitarist in my opinion. And college football bowl season used to be on par with the NCAA tournament for me, but conference realignments and the corporate-fication of it all has knocked it firmly below the NCAA tournament now. The tourney is now king. Here’s to seeing the new coach getting IU solidly in every future tournament with no bubble drama that we’ve had to recently endure. Papacap and Hardwood83 2

How about this- Vicksburg was more important to ending the war than Gettysburg. Discuss. Here's some trivia for you: John Tyler was the 10th President, born in 1790. He has 2 grandsons that are still living! He had children late in life and so did his son. Remarkable. What does this have to do with IU's coaching search? You know what John Tyler did not have? A beard.....make of that what you will. Video Well, Vicksburg was key to controlling the Mississippi River, and it split the Confederacy after it fell. I have heard about John Tyler's grandsons being alive today. The crazy thing is that he was the vice president to Tippecanoe (William Henry Harrison-- Tippecanoe and Tyler Too!), the hero of the Battle of Tippecanoe, which I believe is very close to that university that we shall not speaketh of. Do you know who had a beard? Famous Confederate general John Bell Hood, who adopted Texas as his state. Beard coached at Texas Tech and Texas. Do you know who was from Georgia and had a famous beard? General James Longstreet, which so happens to be Chris Beard's state of birth. My mind is blown!! Make of that what you will. Regarding #4, Eddies great and certainly recognizable, won’t argue his status in the top 5. But these guys are just as recognizable off the top of my head.
