St John’s is in a horrible area in NY.  It’s way the hell out there in Queens.  Nobody even goes out there.  University is in horrible condition.  They were grasping for straws.  They also weren’t hiring an up and comer.  It’s a really difficult place.

You’re not kidding. I think Pitino has been wearing that same suit for 30 years. He mighta dug up the Colonel for that white number.

I mean, I don’t doubt your firm doesn’t hire from outside of IUB. I don’t care… I graduated from there and don’t currently live in Indiana. It may not fly and be a dealbreaker for you and your firm… but I think you’re greatly overestimating how impactful / widespread the sentiment would be. I say this as someone who would not approve of the hire and probably only pay cursory attention to the team if he were hired. JMO. I recognize I probably have a minority opinion on this one. That’s fine.

You don’t understand how much pull the big firms have on the university.  We have a lot of women partners that would be extremely upset with this.  Rightfully so.  There would be huge pressure on that side of things and I am a 100% positive that I don’t think Whitten wants to pull that stuff.  We still have all our DEI, Women’s, etc. because we care about things like this.  It won’t change that.  The UT coach didn’t even make it a week before they were back at the drawing board.

There was a time when none of that would matter. This is not that time. We have a female President and I don't see her hiring a guy with those allegations. I don't know what happened and only his girlfriend and him do, but once that is out there prudent people walk away.

Yes, you are probably right.

I'm just pointing out that winning cures all.

It’s not that I don’t understand. I think they’d all be extremely upset of course. I just don’t see a need to bug out about the possibility because if you understand these things so clearly, you probably understand he very likely won’t be hired. And on the chance he is hired, well, have to assume Dolson and Whitten have anticipated that and are ready to navigate the push back. The UT situation with Schiano is an extreme outlier.

I think you guys are severely underestimating the power of winning.

Look at Pitino.

-He hired strippers to entertain recruits

-He had sexual relations on a table at a restaurant

-He paid for a woman to have an abortion

And despite all that, his name comes up with every coaching search (including this one).

If Chris Beard came here and won big (which I firmly believe he would). People would flock to support him.

Chris Beard is no Rick Pitino when it comes to winning.

I don’t think he even gets to coach a game.  Just like what UT did.  Like I said, nobody cared when Pitino was hired at St John’s. Bloomington is different.

She's probably understanding that biznitches be crazy.  Sometimes you gotta pull a Wayne Brady.

I will also add i know some recruits families will not like Beard as coach either, not all, or even a majority but some. If i remember correctly the mcneelys were a shoe in for Texas until Beard had his situation.

I know one signed recruit’s family that would love their son playing for Beard.  Just sayin’ …

It is Bloomington.  It is why we put Indiana University - Bloomington on our resumes.  It matters and proves my point.  There is a difference.  You don’t understand that difference and the location and how it is so different than every other commuter school with the Indiana names.  I know Pat Hopkins personally and you don’t think he would get a lot of pressure on this.  He would.  Think about that business school pressure on keeping it black instead of red annually.

I hate the “Indiana University - Bloomington” moniker. I keep it Indiana University on my resume.

I mean i definitely specified it’s not going to be the majority so not really sure what your point is here

I think if he comes here and wins, and others don’t won’t to come, he’ll recruit others.  I would guess the majority of families would have no problem with it.

And a minority of recruits wouldn’t like Woody cause he doesn’t know their name.  Recruits didn’t like Archie cause he was odd.  Recruits didn’t like Crean cause he clogged their toilets.  Recruits didn’t…. Well ****, they liked Sampson.  Recruits liked Davis cause he let them do what they wanted.  Coin flip if recruits liked our coach in the last 25 years?

I don’t know anymore to be honest.  My wife and I have discussions about this stuff all the time.  From the Fitzgerald thing I don’t think she will do it but I am honestly like there is always meddling so who knows in basketball.  This is a no second chance for me.  It’s is unforgivable.  Just because someone can coach they are allowed these second chances.  Just because someone can pay someone off they get a second chance.  Bullcrap.  People have lost all standards and this isn’t some simple mistake.  It’s a huge eff up.  He isn’t good enough for these type of risks.  I hope Whitten is smart about it and denies it.  Beard isn’t what is good for this university.

Currently AI sets the BS to IU odds at 2%.  In an attempt to help SD figure out how to land the white whale, I kept adding to the Stevens offer until the odds reached their theoretical max.  Here is where it ended up:

Full Offer Recap
  • Cuban’s Pacers Deal: Cuban buys the Pacers, gives Stevens a 5-10% stake ($150-300 million), sets Brady as GM post-IU (2028-29), funds Tracy’s 2026 governor run ($5-10 million).
  • Btad's IU Contract: $10 million/year (10 years, $100 million), $75 million bonus for each NCAA title.
  • Flagg’s Commitment: Cooper Flagg agrees to transfer from Duke for 2025-26.
  • James and Durant agree to use their remaining eligibility: LeBron plays 2025-26 (age 41); Durant plays 2025-28 (ages 37-40).
  • Prior Perks: Total IU control, Brady’s scholarship, legacy (e.g., “Stevens Court”).
Okay Scott.  The path is laid out for you by our AI overlords.   Get it done.

I guess we still have some time before we need to worry about SkyNet.

I can't wait until we have a coach just the chris beard arguments that happen every other day can stop. Feel like at this point people feel very strongly one way or the other about him and there's no changing their mind

Which is why he shouldn’t be hired.  It will be another crap storm.
