BleedCubbieBlue Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I don’t think Otz is out of the running. It looks like the contract that was announced back in December wasn’t officially signed until Wednesday this week. There is no new contract from the one that was announced, he just finally signed the contract with the lower buyout. Home Jersey, Hoosierfanyuh, HoosierSadaseci and 4 others 6 1

At the least it seems like the search is under control and disciplined. This is a good take. There are really only two conclusions to be had. Either exactly what you said, or the search went completely off the rails after Dusty was a no and they are keeping that quiet. I tend to believe (hope) you’re correct versus option two. Chris007 1

I haven't been able to get much info from people close to the situation since Feb 14 morning. Even when I do they will never use the candidate by name. Do they currently indicate that we have a commitment from said candidate even though they won't name them? Chris007 1

HoosierSadaseci Posted February 28 Posted February 28 This is not a sleight to anyone who provides information on this board from sources...but with our resources, and with how much time Dolson has had to get a plan together, and how quiet things have been, if Dolson strikes out on a big name coach, then it truly was a huge miscalculation on his part... With that said I think we will end up with a good coach...though it doesn't take much to find an improvement over Woodson... IUguy77, Kentuckysucks and thebigweave 3

ib4iu Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I don’t know why people are scared to hire re-treads or P5 coaches that maybe didn’t have as much success the first time. Is it my first choice? No. But if we miss on Stevens, Otz, May, and Drew then I’d take a look at someone like a Collins or Pitino. Barnes is having way more success at UT than he ever did at Texas or Clemson. McDermott did not do well his first P5 gig. Otz while not P5 the mountain west is arguably better some years and he did not do well. I’m sure there are others that fit into this category. So no. I’m fully expecting someone new to pop in sometime after lunch with a new completely bonkers option. My money has been on someone pushing Shrewsberry for a few days, just waiting for that to come to fruition. Surprised it’s taken so long to be honest. Popular Post iu2win Posted February 28 Popular Post Posted February 28 Hypothetical: a contract was signed and the new coach contacts his friend (Goodman) to ask a favor. Send out a vague message that I am not a candidate for the IU coaching position. Scott and I have agreed to give you the heads up hours before making any official announcement. You can say I was not a candidate because I had already accepted the position and we needed to keep a low profile to allow Woodson to bow out gracefully. My theory is we probably reached out to other people like Dusty to see their interest. But whomever we have secured is the only one we actually offered the job to. I think Dusty was already inclined not to take it to begin with. One because he's happy at Michigan and didn't want to turn his back on school that wanted him when Indiana didn't. But also he probably knew he was a plan B and didn't like that. That's speculation on my part. But without those dynamics I think he wouldn't have signed a extension so soon.
